‘Plaza Suite’ playing in Orono

ORONO – Orono Community Theatre will present the Neil Simon comedy “Plaza Suite,” directed by Tellis Coolong and Sandy Cyrus, at the Keith Anderson Community House, 19 Bennoch Road.

Three performances are set:

. 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6.

. 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.

The play has three acts, each with different characters, but all set in Suite 719 of New York City’s Plaza Hotel.

The first act introduces the audience to Sheryl and Lauren, a mother-daughter team back from a day of shopping.

The story revolves around the daughter’s attempt to fix up her widowed mother with a man and the not-so-smooth evening out that ensues.

The second act involves a meeting between small town boy-turned-movie producer Jesse Kiplinger and his old flame, suburban housewife Muriel Tate.

She’s come for nothing more than a chat between old friends, but the star-struck Muriel is helplessly lured by this smooth-talking ladies’ man, who has the inside scoop on all her favorite Hollywood stars.

In the third act, Roy and Norma Hubley’s daughter, Mimsey, refuses to come out of the bathroom and get married. Her parents’ frantic attempts to cajole her into attending her wedding are a showcase for the fine art of communication.

The ensemble cast includes Kendra Albert of Hampden, Paul Nicklas of Bangor, Meg Haskell and Margo Lukens of Orono, Courtney Jackson of Bradley and Tellis Coolong of Milford.

Costume designers are Claire Bolduc and Jean Carville of Orono.

Tickets are $10 adults, $6 students and seniors, in advance at Orono Pharmacy or at the door. The show is sponsored by the Orono-Old Town Kiwanis. For more information, call 866-5065.
