The Husson University Eagles, coming off their first-ever NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament win, will hit the road again with the nation’s No. 1-ranked team awaiting them.
New England Small College Athletic Conference champion Williams College, 16-0-1, will host the Eagles on Sunday at 1.
Meanwhile, the 11-6-1 Husson men’s soccer team will visit Eastern Connecticut State today for an ECAC New England Division III semifinal.
The 16-4 Husson women, 2-0 winners over Norwich on Thursday, continue to be led by strikers Shelby Bradford (23 goals, 15 assists), Megan LaJoie (14 & 6), Samantha Homer (14 & 4) and Megan Clement (10 & 5), midfielders Amy Sanz (4 & 1) and Kylan Smith (0 & 2), back Caitlyn Butterfield (2 & 1) and goalkeeper Tatyana Wolterbeek.
“We’re excited,” said Husson coach Keith Bosley. “Maybe we should be more scared but we’re not because we’ve played three NESCAC schools and we know that style of play.
“We’re not going to change our style of play. We may tweak it at halftime. We’re going to put a lot of pressure on them, especially with our forwards pressuring their fullbacks.”
Husson lost to NESCAC schools Bates (3-2) and Bowdoin (1-0) but beat Colby (3-2 in double overtime) while Williams beat Bates (2-1), Bowdoin (4-0) and Colby (1-0).
Williams features All-NESCAC first team selections Gabrielle Woodson (12 & 7), Brianna Wolfson (10 & 8), back Caitlin Colesanti and goalkeeper Lauren Sinnenberg (0.50 goals-against average, .844 save percentage).
The Husson men have to find a way to neutralize ECSU’s Maxim Fentl (16 & 7) and score on ‘keeper Carl Appel (0.86, .802).
Freshman Tyler Metevier (10 & 3), who had two goals in a 3-0 quarterfinal win over the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, continues to lead Husson in scoring along with Jeff Truchon (6 & 1). Nattapong Kongsuriya (3 & 3), Justin Gauvin (1 & 1) and Rob Cowart (0 & 1) controlled the midfield against USM, and Josh Bartlett (3 & 1) and Billy Shannon (0 & 1) anchored the back line.
