Norton scores in OT for UMF win Husson field hockey team advances

FARMINGTON – Chelsea Norton scored 3:47 into overtime to lift the University of Maine-Farmington past Lyndon State College 3-2 in a North Atlantic Conference women’s soccer quarterfinal Wednesday.

Melissa St. Amand scored with one second remaining in the game to send it into overtime. Amber Murphy added a goal in the first half for No. 3 UMF. Crystal Johnson made one save on three shots for the 8-7 Beavers.

Natalia Shams stopped 12 of 36 shots for 7-10-1 sixth-seeded Lyndon State.

St. Joseph’s 1, Southern Maine 0

At Gorham, Katie Jordan’s goal 2:56 into the first overtime lifted the Monks to the win.

Brianna Jordan assisted on the goal while Katye Mayo saved three of five shots for 13-4-1 Saint Joseph’s of Standish.

Alison Bradley had four saves on eight shots for 4-11-1 Southern Maine.

Green Mountain 3, MMA 0

At Poultney, Vt., three different freshmen scored a goal in the first half to lead fourth-seeded Green Mountain by No. 5 Maine Maritime Academy to advance to the North Atlantic Conference semifinals.

Karen Davidson made one save to earn the shutout for 9-8 Green Mountain.

Lacey Jackson made seven saves for the Mariners, who end their season at 5-10-2.

Men’s soccer

Albany 3, Maine 0

At Orono, Bjorn Bakkers scored off a Claudio Dantas assist 15:29 into the first half, giving the Great Danes the only goal they would need to post an America East victory over the University of Maine.

Dantas also scored a first-half goal and L.J. Papaleo tallied in the second half for Albany (12-3-1, 5-1-1 AE). Mike Peters and Erik DiLorenzo provided assists. Steward Ceus made nine saves on 19 shots.

Nemanja Kostic came up with four saves on 12 shots for the Black Bears (4-9-2, 1-5-1 AE).

Field hockey

Saint Joseph’s 3, Thomas 1

At Standish, Jillian Kimball assisted on goals by Julia Ostrowski, Kelly Emerson and Sarah Bartell to spark the third-seeded Monks to a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal victory.

Meaghan Johnson made seven saves on 10 shots for 13-4 Saint Joseph’s College.

Ali Kriegel scored off an Amy Miles assist for 3-13 Thomas College of Waterville, the No. 6 seed. Megan Denby made 13 saves on 22 shots.

Husson 6, Lasell 0

At Bangor, Krystal Doughty scored two goals and assisted another to propel fourth-seeded Husson University to a shutout of No. 5 Lasell College in a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal.

Doughty scored 3:23 into the contest off a corner to give the Eagles (8-7) the lead for good. She added a goal off an assist by Erica Dorso, who also set up two Courtney Allen tallies on corners.

Erica Dorso added a goal off a Michelle Barden corner to back Caroline Bochtler, who made two saves on five shots.

Christine Thornton and Amanda Miller combined to make nine saves on 22 shots for 7-10 Lasell.
