McGreevey leads Stearns comeback against MCI Rockland blanks MA; Bucksport, MDI victorious

PITTSFIELD – Stearns of Millinocket scored 45 unanswered points to defeat Maine Central Institute 45-21 in high school football action Friday night.

Jared McGreevey completed nine of 24 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Minutemen. He also totaled 75 yards on 11 rushes with a touchdown.

McGreevey completed 65-yard and 50-yard touchdown passes to Jason Levasseur. He also connected with Charlie Osborne in the fourth quarter for a 13-yard scoring pass.

Stearns’ Corey Barnett scored on a 2-yard rush in the second quarter, and McGreevey chipped in a 6-yard TD run in the fourth.

The Minutemen scored twice on defense with Osborne returning an interception 25 yards and Barnett adding a 50-yard interception return.

Shawn Bennett led the Huskies with two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter. Bennett totaled 16 carries for 84 yards.

Brandon Wilson added a 10-yard score in the second quarter.

Markus White had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery to anchor MCI’s defense.

MCI committed nine turnovers.

Rockland 34, Mattanawcook 0

At Rockland, Sam Weiss scored four of Rockland’s five touchdowns as the Tigers shut out Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

Weiss rushed 37 times for 245 yards to pace Rockland. He also had one reception for 28 yards and converted a two-point rush.

Despite the win, Rockland was knocked out of playoff contention with a Stearns victory.

Quarterback Dylan Meklin completed four of 10 passes for 79 yards, including a touchdown pass to Nick Baudanza in the fourth quarter.

Brady Vose led the Lynx with 15 rushes for 48 yards.

Rockland totaled 46 carries for 241 yards while Mattanawcook had 31 carries for 86 yards. The Lynx passes for 40 yards, completing two of eight attempts.

MDI 32, Belfast 18

At Belfast, Jasper Cousins broke open a 20-18 game with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter by scoring two touchdowns to lead Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor to victory over Belfast.

Cousins scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the Trojans, who posted their seventh straight win.

He added an insurance touchdown on a 2-yard run late in the fourth and a 45-yard interception return to ice it.

Tyler Crawford completed a 13-yard scoring pass to Nolan Hall in the second quarter. Odane Gaynor added a 57-yard TD run in the third.

Derrick Bernosky posted two touchdowns to lead Belfast. He scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter and completed a 30-yard pass to Jim Davis.

Will Fogg rushed 7 yards in the fourth quarter for Belfast’s final touchdown.

Bucksport 50, Orono 13

At Bucksport, Nate Warren added to his impressive season rushing total despite not even playing the final quarter with 136 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries for the undefeated Golden Bucks.

Bobby Alvarado gained 131 yards and scored two TDs on just three carries as the Bucks gained 442 yards on the ground. Ray Wood led the defense with six solo tackles and seven assists.

Orono’s Ben Perry gained 136 yards and scored two TDs on 20 carries and Blaine Silk added 69 yards on 12 carries.
