Madawaska surges past Fort Fairfield in 2nd half

FORT FAIRFIELD – The visiting Madawaska Owls scored three unanswered goals in the second half to rally for a 3-1 schoolgirl soccer victory over Fort Fairfield Thursday.

Susan Lavertu scored two of the goals, both assisted by Megan Ouellette, while Kallie Pelletier added an unassisted tally for 8-3 Madawaska. Stephanie Nadeau made nine saves on 13 shots.

Kailyn McLaughlin netted a first-half goal for 7-5-1 Fort Fairfield. Rose-Mary Williams assisted on the goal while Katy Donovan saved 10 of 17 shots.

Fort Kent 3, Houlton 1

At Fort Kent, Jamie Pelletier scored two goals, one in each half, both assisted by Taylor Boucher as the Warriors triumphed.

Pelletier’s first goal occurred 1:30 into the match while Boucher recorded an unassisted second-half goal for 7-4-1 Fort Kent. Carissa Pelletier came up with nine saves on 14 shots.

Lainey Herring scored an unassisted goal for 6-5 Houlton. Madison Lizotte saved eight of 20 shots.

Katahdin 2, Bangor Christian 0

At Stacyville, Mary Jo Robinson and Brooke Livezey scored first-half goals as Katahdin shut out Bangor Christian.

Hope Heath and Robinson had assists for 5-5-2 Katahdin. Dani-Beth Cyr saved all 11 shots.

Moriah Bach stopped 13 of 16 shots for 3-5-1 Bangor Christian.

Highview Chr. 3, East Grand 0

At Charleston, Highview Christian shutout East Grand of Danforth to earn its first win in two years.

Heather Dunfee, Brittany Loreda and Michaela Giles scored for the 1-5-1 Knights who last won in October 2006. Sheila Francis and Dunfee provided assists. Freshman Anita Allard saved 13 of 21 shots.

Courtney Lloyd turned away six of 16 shots for 0-9 East Grand.

Ellsworth 2, Hermon 1

At Ellsworth, Emily Lyons scored in the first half off a Lauren Peer assist to help push Ellsworth past Hermon.

Gabrielle Huebner scored the eventual winner with 31 minutes left in regulation for 9-2-1 Ellsworth. Angie Tucker saved four of six shots.

Jamie Treadwell scored with 9:22 remaining in the second to bring 2-8-1 Hermon within a goal. Sarah Bishop stopped 17 of 20 shots.

George Stevens 2, MDI 1 (OT)

At Blue Hill, Doran Curtin scored off an Alida Peake assist with 3:28 remaining in overtime to lift George Stevens Academy over Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor.

Curtin and Peake teamed up again as Curtin scored with 13:27 left in regulation to tie it for the 9-1-1 Eagles. Hannah Van der Eb turned away three of four shots.

Braillee Black scored an unassisted goal with 11:27 remaining in the first half to give 3-8 MDI an initial 1-0 lead. Elizabeth Sargent saved 11 of 18 shots.

PVHS 3, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Jordan Leveille scored a first-half goal and Katie Whitten and Jordan Faloon each added a goal in the second half to help Penobscot Valley improve to 8-2-1.

Casey McCloskey made 19 saves on 22 shots for PVHS of Howland

Kira Burleigh and Leann Toothaker combined for 23 saves on 27 shots for 2-11 Schenck.

Old Town 0, Orono 0 (2OT)

At Old Town, Elizabeth Fox of Old Town saved one shot in overtime while Orono’s Annie Cashon saved two as the teams failed to score.

Fox saved four of 10 shots for 9-2-1 Old Town.

Cashon made four saves on eight shots for 5-2-4 Orono.

Penquis 3, Lee 2

At Lee, Erica Lyford scored two of the Patriots’ three first-half goals to lead them by the Pandas.

Both of Lyford’s goals were unassisted and she assisted on Sadie Zambrano’s goal about seven minutes into the game. Kristyn Chapman made 11 saves on 21 shots.

Heidi Sappier scored unassisted with about 30 minutes left in the game to cut the Penquis lead to 3-2. Katelyn Mallett scored a first-half goal off a Camisha Doten assist. Felicia Thorton made 16 saves on 22 shots for 4-6-1 Lee.

Boys soccer

Madawaska 3, Fort Fairfield 1

At Fort Fairfield, Shawn Parker had a hat trick as Madawaska defeated Fort Fairfield.

D.J. Gendreau and Nathan Beaulieu recorded assists for the 10-0-2 Owls. Jamie Cyr turned away five of eight shots.

Josh Booth scored in the second half for 8-5 Fort Fairfield. Austin Dufour and Josh Churchill combined to save 10 of 16 shots.

Katahdin 2, Bangor Chr. 2 (2OT)

At Stacyville, Katahdin’s Matt Tarr and Bangor Christian’s Tyler Alexander didn’t allow a goal through two overtimes.

Ethan Qualey scored two unassisted goals, including the tying goal with 21:34 remaining in regulation for Katahdin of Stacyville. Tarr saved eight of 15 shots.

Brett Bradford scored both goals for the Patriots. Brandon Wilcox had two assists as Alexander stopped 15 of 24 shots.

Fort Kent 1, Houlton 0

At Fort Kent, Jared Soucy scored an unassisted goal with 13:06 left in the first half to lift Fort Kent over Houlton.

Matt Harvey faced 10 shots to earn the shutout for 6-4-1 Fort Kent.

Ryan Vanbuskirk saw 30 shots for 2-8-1 Houlton.

Highview Chr. 3, East Grand 2

At Charleston, Alexander Papkov scored the winner off an assist from the goalie Wesley Jones with 5:56 left in regulation to lead Highview Christian past East Grand of Danforth.

Cody Crooker and Ryosuke Yamada scored first-half goals for the 7-2 Knights. Jones and Jeffrey Niles Jr. provided assists. Stefan Rowe and Jones combined for 18 saves on 27 shots.

Jordon Crone scored an unassisted goal for 0-8 East Grand. Goalie Abe Brittain also scored a wind-assisted goal. Brittain stopped 20 of 39 shots.

Field hockey

Leavitt 3, Belfast 1

At Belfast, Leavitt scored three unanswered goals as the Hornets defeated Belfast.

Courtney Erskine scored two goals for 11-1-1 Leavitt. Brianna Dostie added a goal and Megan Miller recorded an assist. Kristen Capen saved six of seven shots.

Lauren Rice scored off a Lauren Rice assist with 3:59 left in the first half for 8-4 Belfast. Paxton Mohney turned away 10 of 13 shots.

JV: Leavitt 3-0

Old Town 3, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Lindsay St. Louis knocked in two goals to lead Old Town past Hermon.

Brittnye Young added a goal and Sarah Wilcox an assist for the Coyotes. Danyle Boobar had 10 saves on 23 shots.

Jaimie Beers netted an unassisted goal for Hermon. Jamie Roy saved 13 of 18 shots.
