Highview Christian earns victory over East Grand

CHARLESTON – The Highview Christian Academy Knights shut out East Grand 3-0 in schoolgirl soccer action Thursday to earn its first victory in two years.

Heather Dunfee, Brittany Loreda and Michaela Giles scored for the 1-5-1 Knights who last won in October 2006. Sheila Francis and Dunfee provided assists. Freshman Anita Allard saved 13 of 21 shots.

Courtney Lloyd turned away six of 16 shots for 0-9 East Grand of Danforth.

Katahdin 2, Bangor Christian 0

At Stacyville, Mary Jo Robinson and Brooke Livezey scored first-half goals as Katahdin shut out Bangor Christian.

Hope Heath and Robinson had assists for 5-5-2 Katahdin. Dani-Beth Cyr saved all 11 shots.

Moriah Bach stopped 13 of 16 shots for 3-5-1 Bangor Christian.

Ellsworth 2, Hermon 1

At Ellsworth, Emily Lyons scored in the first half off a Lauren Peer assist to help push Ellsworth past Hermon.

Gabrielle Huebner scored the eventual winner with 31 minutes left in regulation for 9-2-1 Ellsworth. Angie Tucker saved four of six shots.

Jamie Treadwell scored with 9:22 remaining in the second to bring 2-8-1 Hermon within a goal. Sarah Bishop stopped 17 of 20 shots.

JV: Ellsworth 3-0

Dexter 2, DI-Stonington 1

At Dexter, Sarah Murray and Miranda Gove scored to lead Dexter past Deer Isle-Stonington.

Alexis Mitchell assisted Gove’s second-half goal. Maicee Gustin and Kaitlyn Caron combined to save six of nine shots for 5-5-1 Dexter.

Meaghan Robinson scored off a Holly Brewer assist with 12:56 left in the second to bring the 3-5-2 Mariners within a goal. Annika Powers saved 19 of 29 shots.

John Bapst 2, Bucksport 1

At Bucksport, Molly Lammert curled a 20-yard direct kick into the far corner with 2:06 remaining in regulation as John Bapst rallied to collect the win.

Morgan Chasse had tied it 6:17 earlier with a penalty kick.

Kayli Trasko staked Bucksport to a 1-0 lead in the first half off a Chelsea Fogg assist.

Laura Jordan made four saves on eight shots for 8-4 John Bapst of Bangor while Carrie Daigle made eight saves on 13 shots for 0-10-1 Bucksport.

PVHS 3, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Jordan Leveille scored a first-half goal and Katie Whitten and Jordan Faloon each added a goal in the second half to help Penobscot Valley improve to 8-2-1.

Casey McCluskey made 19 saves on 22 shots for PVHS of Howland

Kira Burleigh and Leann Toothaker combined for 23 saves on 27 shots for 2-11 Schenck.

JV: Schenck 1-0

Old Town 0, Orono 0 (2OT)

At Old Town, Elizabeth Fox of Old Town saved one shot in overtime while Orono’s Annie Cashon saved two as the teams failed to score.

Fox saved four of 10 shots for 9-2-1 Old Town.

Cashon made four saves on eight shots for 5-2-4 Orono.

Penquis 3, Lee 2

At Lee, Erica Lyford scored two of the Patriots’ three first-half goals to lead them by the Pandas.

Both of Lyford’s goals were unassisted and she assisted on Sadie Zambrano’s goal about seven minutes into the game. Kristyn Chapman made 11 saves on 21 shots.

Heidi Sappier scored unassisted with about 30 minutes left in the game to cut the Penquis lead to 3-2. Katelyn Mallett scored a first-half goal off a Camisha Doten assist. Felicia Thorton made 16 saves on 22 shots for 4-6-1 Lee.

Field hockey

Old Town 3, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Lindsay St. Louis knocked in two goals to lead Old Town past Hermon.

Brittnye Young added a goal and Sarah Wilcox an assist for the Coyotes. Danyle Boobar had 10 saves on 23 shots.

Jaimie Beers netted an unassisted goal for Hermon. Jamie Roy saved 13 of 18 shots.

Gardiner 2, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Katie Schide scored both Gardiner goals in the first half as the Tigers shut out Brewer.

Kashley Weymouth and Hailey Chadbourne provided assists for 11-2 Gardiner. Kaitlyn Morrissette saved all four shots.

Angela Patterson turned away 19 of 24 shots for 5-7 Brewer.

Bangor 3, Hampden 0

At Bangor, Kelsey DeRaps, Ashley Higgins and Molleigh Mahaney scored to lift Bangor over Hampden Academy.

Breianna Tocci, Dana Libhart and Alexis Casey recorded assists. Hilary Babin and Melissa Mower stopped all three shots for the 7-5 Rams.

Mel Parker saved six of nine shots for 2-9 Hampden.

JV: Bangor 3-1

Mount View 2, Camden Hills 0

At Thorndike, Allison Tsomides scored with an assist from Alonia Horton in the first half to lead Mount View to victory over Camden Hills of Rockport.

Hayleigh Kein added an insurance goal with 4:46 left in the first half for 8-4 Mount View. Juni Garvin saved all four shots.

Sarah Nason turned away six of eight shots for 5-6-1 Camden Hills.

Boys soccer

Katahdin 2, Bangor Chr. 2 (2OT)

At Stacyville, Katahdin’s Matt Tarr and Bangor Christian’s Tyler Alexander didn’t allow a goal through two overtimes.

Ethan Qualey scored two unassisted goals, including the tying goal with 21:34 remaining in regulation for Katahdin of Stacyville. Tarr saved eight of 15 shots.

Brett Bradford scored both goals for the Patriots. Brandon Wilcox had two assists as Alexander stopped 15 of 24 shots.

Highview Chr. 3, East Grand 2

At Charleston, Alexander Papkov scored the winner off an assist from the goalie Wesley Jones with 5:56 left in regulation to lead Highview Christian past East Grand of Danforth.

Cody Crooker and Ryosuke Yamada scored first-half goals for the 7-2 Knights. Jones and Jeffrey Niles Jr. provided assists. Stefan Rowe and Jones combined for 18 saves on 27 shots.

Jordon Crone scored an unassisted goal for 0-8 East Grand. Goalie Abe Brittain also scored a wind-assisted goal. Brittain stopped 20 of 39 shots.

Central 7, Foxcroft 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jacob Speed scored three goals and assisted another as Central of Corinth beat Foxcroft Academy.

Ryan Bean added two goals for the 6-4-3 Red Devils. Matt Kelley and Zach Kirlin also scored. Patrick Byers and Brett Speed recorded assists as Cole Haskell turned away eight of 11 shots.

Kim Kim and Kyosuke Mikame scored for the 0-11-1 Ponies. Alex Gray saved 25 of 33 shots.
