Thursday’s Page B1 story about a limited bow hunt for deer on Marsh Island requires clarification. The Old Town City Council does not have the jurisdiction to authorize a hunt in a state-designated game preserve. The council voted Monday night to support a limited hunt on city-owned lands to reduce the deer population if the measure is proposed and enacted by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and the Wildlife Advisory Council. On Thursday, a spokeswoman for DIF&W said Commissioner Roland “Danny” Martin has received word of the council’s decision. Once he receives an official request from the council, Martin will make a decision on whether to recommend approval through the rule-making process.
The HeatCosts heating fuel prices listed on Thursday’s State page were for the week of Oct. 6.
