Schaefer, Leithiser lift Old Town to win

OLD TOWN – Janis Schaefer scored three goals and Jake Leithiser added two to propel the Old Town Coyotes to a 7-2 schoolboy soccer victory over the Central Red Devils Monday.

Luke Bartlett added a goal and an assist for the 5-2 Coyotes. Jacob St. Peter also scored and Dan LeBreton and Lucas Baillargeon had assists. Lee Larry and Alex Cabellero combined for seven saves on nine shots.

Jacob Speed and David Lord scored to lead 3-2-2 Central. Cole Haskell blocked 10 of 17 shots.

JV: Old Town 5-0

Piscataquis 7, Searsport 0

At Guilford, Kyle Steeves scored three goals as Piscataquis Community won.

Damien Bridge, Matt Gilbert, Dustin Yonkin and Matt Cole scored the other goals with Kyle Curtis and Justin Cleaves picking up assists. Corbin Shufelt made eight saves.

Dan Peach made 10 saves for 2-7 Searsport.

JV: 2-2

Dexter 4, Foxcroft 0

At Dexter, Devon Grant scored a goal and assisted another to lead Dexter.

C.J. Giles, Lee Gustin and Will Pearsall scored for the 4-0-2 Tigers. Ryan Wilks provided three assists and Nathan Wyman turned away six of 11 shots.

Jason Lee blocked 12 of 31 shots for 0-5-1 Foxcroft.

GSA 0, Penquis 0

At Milo, Penquis goalie Richie Russell made 17 saves and George Stevens Academy goalie Nate Hines made 11 to preserve the shutout through two overtimes.

GSA outshot Penquis 31-18. GSA is now 2-4-1 and Penquis is 2-3-1.

John Bapst 3, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Andrew Casey scored three unanswered goals as John Bapst of Bangor defeated Hermon.

Andrew Babbitt and Alex Gale provided assists for the 3-2-1 Crusaders. Ryan Carr made seven saves on 15 shots.

Lance Hollobaugh scored an unassisted first-half goal for 0-7 Hermon. Cory Johnson turned away seven of 13 shots.

JV: Hermon 1-0

Bangor 5, Lawrence 1

At Fairfield, Phil Frost scored two first-half goals and the unbeaten Rams jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead en route to their sixth win.

Nick George added a goal and assist for the winners and Dan Taft and Luke Hetterman each notched a goal. Mac Susi chipped in with two assists while Frost had one. Alan Reese made two saves on five shots.

Justin Landry scored unassisted for 2-4 Lawrence and Codey Sabian made 12 saves on 26 shots.

JV: Bangor 1-0

Penobscot Valley 2, Schenck 1

At East Millinocket, goals by Joe Brown and Charlie Gardner gave the Howlers of Howland a 2-0 lead, and they held off the Wolverines the rest of the way.

John MacKinnon assisted on Gardner’s goal, and Jacob Jones made three saves on 10 shots for the 4-1-1- Howlers.

Aaron Hutchins scored unassisted for 1-5-1 Schenck, and Ryan Thompson made 24 saves on 30 shots.

Schenck 2, DI-Stonington 0

At East Millinocket on Saturday, Aaron Hutchins tallied twice to give the Wolverines their first victory.

Ryan Thompson made nine saves on 12 shots for Schenck, and Eben Powers stopped 12 of the 20 shots he faced.

Field hockey

Dexter 3, Piscataquis 0

At Guilford, Katie Eastman scored twice as the Tigers remained undefeated.

Chelsea Lougee also scored for 6-0 Dexter, while Olivia Gardner and Claire Wyman each had an assist.

Sam Conway preserved the shutout by saving all three shots she faced.

Brianna Tweedie made 21 saves on 30 shots for 0-7 Piscataquis.

Mattanawcook 4, Central 3

At Corinth, Brooke Hanscom scored a goal and provided two assists as Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln prevailed.

Kamryn Knott, Alexa Olsen and Felicia Delaite scored for the 3-4 Lynx. Vinni Nesin and Taylor Hawkes combined to stop 33 of 36 shots.

Roberta Trafton scored two goals for 3-4 Central. Jasmine Rugan added a goal as Taryn Pineo and Samantha Blanchard provided assists. Brittany Cote blocked 35 of 39 shots.

JV: Central 3-0

Old Town 1, John Bapst 1 (2OT)

At Old Town, Gabi doAmaral scored the tying goal off a Sarah Wilcox assist with eight minutes left in regulation for Old Town before the scoreless overtime periods.

Emily Tilton scored five minutes into the game for 1-4-1 John Bapst of Bangor. Megan Smith made 22 saves on 24 shots.

Heather Nye and Danyle Boobar combined for 16 saves on 20 shots for 3-2-1 Old Town.

JV: John Bapst 2-1

Girls soccer

Rockland 4, MCI 3

At Rockland, Cassie Elwell hit a Baillie Boggs corner kick to Brighde Curtin who then put it in the net with 10 minutes left in the second half to break the 3-3 tie and give Rockland the win.

Novelle Szandzik scored the tying goal 10 minutes into the second half for 3-3 Rockland. Boggs had a goal and an assist and Elwell also scored. Natalie Russell blocked eight of 17 shots.

Ashley Kitchin scored two goals for 0-5-1 MCI. Melanie Arias chipped in with a goal. All three of the Huskies’ goals were in the first half. Alana Oliver turned away 14 of 24 shots.

Ellsworth 4, John Bapst 1

At Bangor, Ashley Smith scored two first-half goals for the 6-0 Eagles. Casey Wyman and Lauren Peer added one goal each, all were unassisted. Angie Tucker made 14 saves on 15 shots in goal for the winners.

Brittney Williams scored an unassisted goal for the Crusaders. Laura Jordan had 10 saves on 14 shots for the 3-2 Crusaders.

Schenck 3, DI-Stonington 0

At East Millinocket, Alexxa Pasanen scored two goals to lift Schenck over Deer Isle-Stonington Saturday.

Sam York added a goal for the 1-4 Wolverines. Karlie Michaud provided an assist. Kira Burleigh stopped 10 of 11 shots.

Anika Powers turned away 14 of 19 shots for 0-3-1 DI-Stonington.

Calvary Chapel 4, Narraguagus 0

At University College of Bangor, Megan Warman, Jacqueline Veilleux, Hope Johnson and Lesanne Ricker scored to lead Calvary Chapel of Orrington past Narraguagus of Harringotn.

Jasmine Despres provided an assist for the Sabers. Emily Mills stopped both shots.

Samantha Baker made 19 saves on 26 shots for Narraguagus.

SAHS 5, Lee 0

At Dyer Brook, Rochelle Nadeau recorded two goals and an assist to lead Southern Aroostook by Lee.

Evangeline Goodall chipped in with a goal and assist for the 8-0-1 winners and Brittany Charette and Kim Pratt each added a goal. Emily Cummings and Mallary Lawlor combined for eight saves on 13 shots.

Felicia Thornton made nine saves on 18 shots for 2-3 Lee.

PVHS 2, Central 1

At Howland, Jordan Leveille scored an unassisted goal and scored on a penalty kick to lead Penobscot Valley to victory Friday.

Casey McCloskey had 18 saves on 22 shots for the 2-1-1 winners.

Brianna Steed scored for the 0-5 Red Devils with an assist from Hannah Pray. Shari Shina had six saves on eight shots.

JV: Howland 2-0

Bangor 3, Lawrence 0

At Bangor, Eliza Estabrook scored two goals as Bangor defeated Lawrence of Fairfield.

Denali Graham scored a second-half goal for Bangor. Jenny Leach and M.J. Boyce provided assists. Kortnie Hudgens made eight saves on 16 shots.

Jess Poulin stopped four of 23 shots for Lawrence.

JV: Bangor 7-0

Ashland 4, Katahdin 0

At Presque Isle, Crystal Cook scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as Ashland scored four second-half goals to beat Katahdin of Stacyville.

Brooke Labelle and Elena Reynaga had the other goals and Taylor Baker made six saves for the 8-1-1 Hornets.

Jade Clippinger made 21 saves for 2-5-1 Katahdin.
