Bajic propels Southern Maine men to victory over Bowdoin

GORHAM – Sinisa Bajic scored two second-half goals Wednesday to pace the University of Southern Maine to a 3-1 men’s soccer victory over Bowdoin College of Brunswick.

Bajic assisted on Peter McHugh’s first-half tally for the 4-2-1 Huskies. David Kreps had two saves on nine shots.

Hugh Fleming scored on a penalty kick for 1-2 Bowdoin. Garrick Sheldon saved two of nine shots.

CMCC 7, EMCC 1

At Bangor, Abdikiadir Ahmed and Mahad Osman had two goals each to pace the 4-2 Mustangs to victory.

Shane Hurdle, Abdjabar Hersi, and Yassin Omar added one goal apiece for Central Maine Community College of Auburn. Brian Mills made seven saves on 8 shots.

Joe Theriault had an unassisted goal for the 0-2 Golden Eagles. Richard Parks stopped 12 of 19 shots.

Women’s soccer

Husson 8, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Katie Nickerson scored two goals in the first six minutes to spark the Eagles to victory over the Terriers.

Shelby Bradford and Megan Lajoie provided a goal and an assist each for Husson University of Bangor (5-1, 1-0 North Atlantic Conference). Megan Clement added an assist.

Lindsey Gove came up with 12 saves on 20 shots for Thomas (2-4-1, 0-1 NAC).

Saint Joseph’s 3, Mount Ida 0

At Standish, Mikayla Call scored two goals to lead Saint Joseph’s past Mount Ida.

Lauren Harrigan added a goal for the 1-2 Monks.

Mount Ida dips to 2-1-1.

Field hockey

UM-Farmington 3, USM 1

At Farmington, Ashley Wentworth and Emma Deans had a goal and assist to lead UM-Farmington past Southern Maine.

Andrea Tyler added a first-half goal for the 1-3 Beavers while Kaeleigh Barker had eight saves on nine shots.

Caitlin Albert scored in the second half for 1-3 Southern Maine with Brianna Beisaw assisting. Allison Hill stopped 20 of 24 shots.

Colby 7, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Heather Quadir scored two of her three goals in the second half to power the Mules to victory.

Meryl Poulin posted a goal and two assists, while Amy Campbell, Olivia Lattanzi and Chelsea Rosenheimer scored one goal apiece. Ashley Wagner added two assists while Frazer Humes and Mollie Kimmel had one each.

Liz Fontaine did not face any shots for 1-2 Colby.

Meg Denby collected 18 saves for Thomas.
