Old Town shuts out MDI Foxcroft Academy opens with field hockey victory

OLD TOWN – Katie Deshane and Meagan Cousins each netted two goals to lead the Old Town Coyotes to a 4-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Mount Desert Island Trojans Saturday.

Annie Cashon, Tiffany Gammon, Erin St. Peter and Lauren LeBreton each grabbed an assist for Old Town. Cashon stopped seven of 10 shots for the 1-0 Coyotes.

Elizabeth Sargent made 11 saves on 19 shots for the 0-1 Trojans.

JV: MDI 8-3

DI-Stonington 1, Dexter 1 (2OT)

At Deer Isle, Alexis Mitchell scored the tying goal for Dexter with 16:46 left in the first half as the Tigers fought to a tie with Deer Isle-Stonington through two overtimes.

Katlyn Carson made seven saves on 13 shots for the Tigers.

Holly Brewer scored for Deer Isle-Stonington in the first half off an assist from Janelle Ciomei. Anika Powers stopped 16 of 21 shots for the Mariners.

Caribou 5, Foxcroft Acad. 0

At Caribou, Genna Selander and Kristen Espling each scored two goals as Caribou shut out Foxcroft Academy.

Jamie Martin added a goal for Caribou while Emily Anderson, Lydia Kieffer and Paige Small each had an assist. Brittany Doak made four saves on six shots for the 2-2 Vikings.

Sarah Whittemore stopped seven of 28 shots for the 0-1 Ponies.

Bangor Christian 2, Schenck 0

At Bangor, Whitney Holmes and Demelza Ramirez each scored a goal to lead Bangor Christian by Schenck of East Millinocket.

Kelly Robinson grabbed two assists for Bangor Christian. Moriah Bach stopped 10 of 14 shots for the 1-0 Patriots.

Leann Toothaker made six saves on 17 shots for 0-1 Schenck.

Greenville 2, Buckfield 2 (2OT)

At Buckfield, McKenna Peat scored two goals for Greenville, including the game-tying goal 11:28 into the second half, as the Lakers battled Buckfield to a 2-2 tie through two overtimes.

Nikki Hamilton had an assist for Greenville. Sidney Richardson stopped 17 of 19 shots for the 0-0-1 Lakers.

Ashlee Hamann scored two goals while Carly Carlisle made eight saves on 35 shots for 0-0-1 Buckfield.

Fort Kent 0, Orono 0 (2OT)

At Fort Kent, neither Fort Kent nor Orono could push the ball past the goalkeepers as their match ended in a scoreless tie through two overtimes.

Carissa Pelletier stopped 10 of 15 shots for 5-1-1 Fort Kent.

Elizabeth Fox made 11 saves on 21 shots for 0-0-1 Orono.

Field hockey

Foxcroft Acad. 5, Hermon 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Sabrina Sharrow and Kelsey Boss scored two goals apiece to spark Foxcroft Academy by Hermon.

Mariah Arno added a goal and an assist while Molly Cyr and Boss each grabbed two assists for Foxcroft. Cassie Curtis made two saves on three shots for the 1-0 Ponies.

Lillian Berry scored for Hermon while Carrie Cole stopped 23 of 28 shots for the 0-1 Hawks.

Boys soccer

MDI 2, Old Town 0

At Bar Harbor, Iz Ward scored an unassisted goal with four minutes remaining in the first half to help push Mount Desert Island past Old Town.

Abe Gladstone added an insurance goal off a Tyler Steel assist with nine minutes left in regulation for the 1-0 Trojans. Ben Cummings blocked five of six shots.

Lee Larry made six saves on 10 shots for 0-1 Old Town.

JV: MDI 3-1

Machias 5, Calvary Chapel 1

At Machias, Matt Little and Jacob Stevens scored two goals apiece to spark Machias by Calvary Chapel Christian of Orrington.

Jake Dahl posted a goal and three assists for Machias. Michael Jenkins stopped four of seven shots for the 1-0 Bulldogs.

Stephen Brenyi netted a goal for Calvary Chapel while Devan Warman made 12 saves on 24 shots for the 0-1 Sabers.

Caribou 5, Foxcroft 0

At Caribou, Cameron Anderson scored three goals as the Vikings shut out Foxcroft Academy.

Ethan McDuffie had a goal and an assist for 2-1-1 Caribou. Chad McCarthy scored a goal as Phil St. Peter and Nick James provided assists. Eric Brown stopped two of five shots.

Jamie Lee made four saves on 14 shots for 0-1 Foxcroft Academy.

Greenville 3, Buckfield 2

At Buckfield, Richie Chilson scored two goals to lift Greenville over Buckfield.

Tony DiAngelo had a goal and an assist for 1-0 Greenville. Evan Bickford assisted DiAngelo’s goal. Alex Jardine stopped 17 of 22 shots.

Aaron Dewitt scored off a Cam Allen assist for 0-1 Buckfield. Austin Dooley added an unassisted goal with five seconds left in regulation. Nathan Corson made 15 saves on 20 shots.

Messalonskee 2, Hampden 0

At Hampden on Friday, Eric Anderson and Cam Omsberg tallied a goal apiece to propel Messalonskee of Oakland past Hampden.

Matt Ouellette had an assist while Sergio Seruello made three saves on six shots for the 1-0 Eagles.

Brad Melanson stopped eight of 10 shots for the 0-1 Broncos.

Dexter 2, DI-Stonington 0

At Deer Isle, Andrew Lary and Ryan Wilks each tallied a goal to spark Dexter by Deer Isle-Stonington.

Nathan Wyman made two saves on three shots for the 1-0 Tigers.

Eben Powers and Lucas Trundy combined to make 15 saves on 20 shots for the 0-1 Mariners.

Lawrence 2, Nokomis 1 (OT)

At Newport, Kyle Rabe scored an unassisted goal with 1:27 remaining in the overtime to lead Lawrence of Fairfield to victory over Nokomis.

Rabe also scored with 53 seconds left in the first half to tie it up at 1-1 for 1-0 Lawrence. Corey Sabian blocked eight of 12 shots.

Kelby Duplisea had an unassisted goal with 12 minutes left in the first for the 0-1 Warriors. Tyler Wintle made 16 saves on 21 shots.

Penobscot Valley 1, Piscataquis 0

At Guilford, Tyler Wood scored with 4:30 remaining in regulation as Penobscot Valley of Howland defeated Piscataquis.

Jacob Jones turned away six of eight shots for the 1-0 Howlers.

Corbin Shufelt made six saves on eight shots for the 0-1 Pirates.

JV: Penobscot Valley 2-1

Central 3, John Bapst 3 (2OT)

At Bangor, John Bapst’s Ryan Carr and Central of Corinth’s Cole Haskell didn’t allow a goal through two overtimes.

Ryan Bean tied it at 3-3 with 4:12 remaining in regulation off a Jacob Speed assist for 0-0-1 Central. Bean and Joey Brown added goals. Speed had another assist and Matt St. Peter assisted a goal. Cole Haskell blocked 16 of 22 shots.

Andrew Casey scored two first-half goals and another in the second half for 0-0-1 John Bapst. Casey Hull had an assist as Ryan Carr turned away 20 of 24 shots.

JV: John Bapst 9-0
