MA Lynx edge Foxcroft Hampden, Orono, Stearns, MCI, Old Town win

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Greg Hand scored a fourth-quarter touchdown on a 10-yard run to rally the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx past the Foxcroft Academy Ponies 14-12 in a mutual high school football opener Friday night.

Josh Pelkey completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Derek Gardner in the second quarter for the Lynx and Brady Vose added what proved to be a crucial two-point conversion rush. Pelkey completed 8 of 13 passes for 50 yards.

Foxcroft’s Jamie Nason completed a 9-yard TD pass to Wade Witham in the second quarter. Nason added another touchdown in the third on a 1-yard run.

Witham had 14 carries for 110 yards and Ian Champeon rushed 20 times for 83 yards.

Hampden 16, Belfast 6

At Belfast, Mike Jenkins scored on a 3-yard run and added the two-point conversion on a rush in the first quarter as Hampden Academy defeated Belfast.

Jon Haws added a touchdown on an 18-yard run in the third quarter for the Broncos, and Evan Sinclair tacked on two points in the fourth by sacking the Lions’ quarterback in the end zone for a safety.

Willy Fogg scored Belfast’s lone touchdown with a 2-yard rush in the second quarter.

Halfback Nolan Turner led Hampden with 12 carries for 89 yards, and Fogg topped the Lions with 122 yards on 16 carries.

Winslow 30, MDI 12

At Bar Harbor, Scott Siviski rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another as Winslow beat Mount Desert Island.

Siviski rushed for 122 yards on 10 carries for Winslow and added 79 yards as he completed six of nine passes. He also successfully converted all three extra point kicks and a 28-yard field goal.

Ryan Pelletier scored a touchdown in the second quarter on a 10-yard pass from Siviski. Eric Bezonson had a 4-yard TD run in the second.

Winslow totaled 283 rushing yards and 362 total yards.

Taylor Stewart put the Trojans on the board with a 6-yard run in the third quarter. Tyler Crawford followed with a two-yard scoring run in the fourth.

Odane Gaynor led MDI with 101 yards rushing on 12 carries. Jasper Cousins anchored the defense with 10 tackles.

Orono 28, Rockland 20

At Orono, Orono overcame a 20-point first-quarter deficit to defeat Rockland.

Marcus Leek gave Orono its first lead with 1:14 remaining in the game on a 6-yard run. Kash Keezer made it an eight-point game by converting the two-point conversion on a rush.

Keezer rushed seven times for 137 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Blaine Silk scored in the second quarter on a 37-yard run. He totaled nine carries for 72 yards.

Leek had 54 yards on eight carries.

Brandon LeVasseur, Keezer and Silk had an interception, all coming in the second half.

Rockland’s Coby Boutot and Dylan Meklin had 1-run touchdown runs in the first quarter. Sam Weiss followed with a 14-yard scoring rush.

Weiss rushed 20 times for 140 yards while Meklin completed 11 of 22 passes for 130 yards.

Stearns 48, Dexter 0

At Millinocket, Cory Bennett and Billy Eurich scored a pair of touchdowns apiece to lead the Minutemen past the Tigers.

Curt Hamilton provided Stearns its first two scores, a 6-yard run in the first quarter (with a Luis Ventura point-after kick) and a safety in the second quarter.

Barnett then rushed 9 yards for a TD and caught a 6-yard TD pass from Jared McGreevy for his TDs, sandwiching a 6-yard TD reception by Charlie Osborne.

In the fourth quarter for the Minutemen, Jason Levasseur ran 30 yards for a TD followed by Eurich’s TDs on runs of 5 and 34 yards.

Osborne finished with 109 yards on 21 carries and Hamilton added 78 on 16 carries as Stearns posted 301 yards rushing total. McGreevy was 5 of 6 passing for 60 yards and the two TDs.

The Stearns defense, sparked by Barnett’s 12 tackles and an interception and Hamilton’s eight tackles and a safety, held Dexter to minus 5 yards of total offense.

Doug Richardson led the Tigers with 10 tackles.

At Pittsfield, Nick Miller rushed 17 times for 114 yards and scored a second-quarter touchdown as Maine Central Institute shut out Calais.

MCI’s Craig Reazor ran just four times but totaled 82 yards and a touchdown. Shawn Bennett had seven carries for 76 yards and Brandon Wilson totaled 51 yards on nine carrier. Wilson and Bennett scored touchdowns.

Markus White led the Huskies on defense with 10 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Bennett added 11 tackles and three assists and Miller had nine tackles and three assists.

Blake Ford paced Calais with 20 carries for 88 yards.

MCI had 347 total yards with 336 rushing yards. Calais had 200 yards total, all rushing.

At Old Town, Josh Boucher’s 15-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Coyotes the winning edge over the Mustangs of Thorndike.

Boucher threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Hamm for Old Town’s first-quarter touchdown.

Boucher finished with 119 total passing yards and completed 7 of 15 passes.
