Ashland breaks ground for 350-student school

ASHLAND – Some 400 people attended the official groundbreaking on the athletic fields at Ashland Middle-High School on Aug. 19 for a new prekindergarten through grade 12 school.

The 87,000-square-foot school will accommodate approximately 350 students in the district comprising Ashland, Garfield Plantation, Masardis, Oxbow Plantation and Portage Lake. The superintendent’s office also will be housed on school property in a renovated building adjacent to the new school.

Among those officiating at the ceremonies were school Superintendent Gehrig Johnson, board Chair Sheila Lyons, state Sen. John Martin, and state Reps. Charles Theriault and Pat Sutherland.
