Gervais, Caron lead Shiretowners’ upset of Stearns

MILLINOCKET – Porter Gervais hit two singles, a double and a sacrifice fly and finished with four RBIs to give No. 11 Houlton an upset win over No. 6 Stearns, 8-3, in an Eastern Maine Class C baseball prelim Tuesday.

Hunter Caron had two singles and three runs scored for the Shiretowners. Levi Prosser hit an RBI single.

Aaron Cyr hit a solo home run in the second inning for Stearns followed by a two-run homer by Cory Barnett in the third inning.

At East Machias, the Washington Academy Raiders scored three runs in the second – thanks to four walks and two hit batters – all with two outs and notched the win despite being outhit 8-4.

Bryce Colbeth had one single, but drove in three runs on a hit by pitch, the single, and a fielder’s choice groundout.

Jon Lee led the Owls with a double, two singles and two RBIs. Ethan Welch hit a solo homer in the third and Andrew Dechaine had a double and a single.

At Caribou, Matt Kinney homered to lead off the game and added an RBI single in the third inning to help push No. 5 Caribou past No. 12 Foxcroft Academy.

Philip St. Peter had two singles and two RBIs for Caribou. Jarryd Rossignol singled twice and drove in a run.

Ian Champeon hit a home run in the fourth inning to lead Foxcroft Academy.

At Ellsworth, Andrew Hodge entered the game with two outs in the seventh inning, a runner on first, and a one-run lead to protect.

He ended it via a strikeout with the bases loaded to preserve Ellsworth’s victory.

The third-ranked Eagles scored four unearned runs in the fifth via a two-run double by Adam Kaspala, five walks and two errors.

Kaspala had two doubles and three RBIs for Ellsworth. Drew Barkhouse added an RBI single.

Calvin Tweedie had a triple, a single and three RBIs for the No. 14 Mount Desert Island Trojans. Danny Dunn had two doubles and two RBIs.

At Lincoln, No. 7 Mattanawcook Academy scored three runs in the sixth inning to claim victory over No. 10 Medomak Valley of Waldoboro.

Ivan Voisine of Mattanawcook tied it at 2-2 with an RBI double scoring Tyson Tash from second in the sixth. Pinch-runner Donnie Russell scored the winning run on a Tyler White single. White scored an insurance run on a Peter Coggins single.

Mattanawcook’s Coggins also hit an RBI triple in the fourth inning.

Dale Winchenbach tripled for Medomak Valley. Zach Pease doubled and drove in a run and Isaac Durkee singled twice.

At Bucksport, Eddie Robbins drove in three runs on a double and a single to propel No. 8 Bucksport by No. 9 Mount View of Thorndike.

Kyle McGeechan and Cam Wentworth each hit two singles for the Golden Bucks.

Cody Raven hit a home run and two singles while Tyler Miles had two singles and a double for Mount View.

At Presque Isle, No. 9 Penobscot Valley of Howland received a strong pitching effort from righthander Aaron Saucier to edge the eighth-seeded Fort Kent Warriors.

Saucier scattered four hits while giving up three runs and walking two. He struck out 10.

Penobscot Valley’s Nevin Jipson hit an RBI single in the third inning to spark the offense.

Jared Soucy doubled and scored a run in the third inning for Fort Kent. Jesse Guimond doubled and Aaron Paradis singled and knocked in a run.

At Limestone, Matt Enman pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts to lead No. 7 Limestone Community School/ Maine School of Science and Mathematics by No. 10 Machias.

Tom Albert hit two singles and drove in a run and Ty Tracy had a third-inning RBI double for the Eagles.

Jacob Stevens posted two singles and an RBI for Machias.

At Mars Hill, Collin Ciomei launched a pair of three-run homers as No. 11 Deer Isle-Stonington outlasted sixth seed Central Aroostook.

Ethan Pinkham had two singles and a double and Eric Marsh a three-run homer for the Mariners.

Logan McCarthy led the Panthers with two doubles, two singles and three RBIs. Logan McLaughlin doubled twice and singled (two RBIs) while Blake McCarthy doubled and singled to knock in three.

Rocky Chamberland singled in a run for No. 12 Wisdom of St. Agatha.

Johnson doubled, tripled and scored a run for the Patriots. Jared Theriault had two singles and two RBIs and Levi Washburn hit two singles and drove in a run.

Ryan Bowen paced Shead with two singles and an RBI. Tyler Mitchell and Timmy Barnes singled.
