Gimbel last at-bat lifts Ashland

ASHLAND – Nick Gimbel drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Ashland past Katahdin of Stacyville 4-3 in baseball action Tuesday.

Henry Milligan hit a single and scored the winning run in the eighth. Justin Belanger pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts while posting a single and an RBI double for the Hornets.

Josh Guiggey tripled and doubled for Katahdin. Ethan Qualey had a two-run double while Josh McGraw hit a triple for the Cougars.

At Mars Hill, Manny Martinez improved his record to 2-0 and led the Central Aroostook Panthers past visiting Fort Fairfield by coming up with the game-winning hit and allowing seven hits and one walk while notching six strikeouts.

The Panthers scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Cameron York led off with a walk, stole second, went to third on a Kasey Brewer single, and then scored on a Martinez single to left.

Logan McCarthy led CAHS with three singles. Brewer had a double and a single.

Austin Dufour hit a double and a single for the Tigers.

At Caribou, Pat Thibodeau and Philip St. Peter combined on a four-hit shutout to power Caribou by Presque Isle.

Matt Kinney hit a double and two singles for Caribou. Thibodeau posted two singles and two RBIs while Jarryd Rossignol had two singles and an RBI for the Vikings.

Steve Ford hit two singles for Presque Isle.

At St. Agatha, Jesse Guimond hit a two-run home run as part of a 10-run first inning as Fort Kent defeated Van Buren.

Jared Soucy hit two triples with three RBIs for Fort Kent. Thomas Levesque doubled and singled with an RBI while Kris Guimond hit a double for the Warriors.

Alex Martin posted two singles and a double for Van Buren.

GHCA sweeps Hodgdon

At Hodgdon, Zach Straubel tallied four singles and an RBI as Greater Houlton Christian Academy swept Hodgdon in a doubleheader.

The Eagles defeated the Hawks 9-7 in the first game and took the second game 17-4.

In the first game, Chad Duff posted a pair of singles for Greater Houlton Christian.

Travis Quint had a two-run double while Dan McGillicuddy hit two singles for Hodgdon.

In the second game, Duff hit three singles while Ryan Campbell had a single with two RBIs for the Eagles.

Jamie Ryan had an two-run double for the Hawks.

At Mars Hill, with one out and a runner at third base in the seventh inning, relief pitcher Sarah Long notched back-to-back strikeouts to help the Central Aroostook Panthers edge visiting Fort Fairfield.

Long led the Panthers offensively with a grand slam, two singles, and eight RBIs. Kristen Long had three singles and four RBIs while Letisha Neece added a double and two singles.

Amber Watson hit a grand slam for the Tigers and Kelly Lynch added an RBI single.

Jasmine Pellitier doubled and singled with two RBIs while Melissa Duffy hit two singles for the Cougars.

Crystal Deschaine, Lindsey Lajoie and Marissa Ouellette each hit a single and scored a run for Van Buren.

At Caribou, Amy Grivois hit a two-run single to highlight an eight-run sixth inning as Presque Isle topped Caribou.

Ashley Doucette and Sarina Grier each hit three singles and scored two runs for Caribou.
