Kelley strikes out 21, Hawks tip Devils in 10

CORINTH – Ashley Kelley struck out 21 and scattered seven hits and Hermon scored a pair of two-out runs in the 10th inning on an infield error to earn a 3-1 Class B softball victory over Central on Thursday.

Kelley didn’t walk anybody.

Hilary Haney pitched a two-hitter for Central, striking out nine and walking nine.

Ally Wharton and Amanda Page each singled for Hermon while Kristie Collins doubled and singled for Central and Brooke Washburn doubled and scored the Red Devils’ run.

Bangor 10, Messalonskee 3

At Bangor, Bangor scored six runs in the second and four runs in the third as they defeated Messalonskee of Oakland.

Kim Jordan hit two triples to lead the Rams. Amy Hackett doubled and singled with two RBIs and Eliza Estabrook added two singles and two RBIs.

Juliana Sekete doubled, singled and drove in a run for Messalonskee.

At Old Town, Hannah Morin had a double, two singles and an RBI to help lift Old Town to a huge Class B win over top-ranked Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

Morin struck out seven and picked up the win for the Coyotes. Jenna Winegardner hit an RBI triple and Amy Singer added an RBI double.

Brooke Hanscom singled three times to lead the Lynx and Bree Hanscom hit two singles. Deni Nicastro recorded nine strikeouts.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Kelsey Boss allowed three hits and no walks while striking out eight to lead Foxcroft Academy to the shutout win over Piscataquis of Guilford.

Suzanna Richards doubled and singled with an RBI for the Ponies. Vanessa Lougee had two singles and an RBI and Paige Hobbs hit an RBI double.

Jill Martell led the Pirates with two singles.

Bangor 17, Messalonskee 7

At Oakland, Ryan Larochelle’s two-run double and RBI singles by John Cox and Jimmy Burns keyed a seven-run first inning for Bangor.

Larochelle also had three singles and knocked in three runs. Kyle Vanidestine had four singles, Kyle Savage and Shane Walton a double, two singles and two RBIs each, Cox two singles and three RBIs and Burns two singles and an RBI.

Chris Farrar tripled and doubled and had two RBIs for the Eagles. Matt Stuart and Joe Dumont each doubled and singled and combined to drive in three runs and Josh Gilbert added two singles and an RBI.

At Husson College in Bangor, Aaron Healey and Casey Hull stroked RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth inning as John Bapst rallied for the victory.

Healey went the distance in earning the pitching win, throwing 125 pitches with nine strikeouts and four walks.

Ryan Carr tripled in a run to cap a game-tying two-run rally in the seventh for Bapst. Jon Gagnon preceded Carr’s hit with an RBI single.

Hull added a double and a single for the Crusaders.

Dylan Wilbur laced an RBI triple while Adam Kaspala doubled and singled (RBI) for the Eagles. Brad Folmer singled twice.

At Newport, Brennan Perry pitched a complete-game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and four walks as the Broncos gained their ninth victory.

Hampden led just 2-1 entering the seventh inning, but Ryan McCluskey’s two-run single highlighted a four-run rally by the Broncos.

Patrick Stephens had two doubles, a single and two RBIs for Hampden, while Nolan Turner had three singles and two runs scored and Ryan Lindemann had two singles.

Jordan Richards had an RBI triple for Nokomis.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Josiah Richard singled twice and doubled (five RBIs) while Ian Champeon slapped a two-run homer to lead Foxcroft past Piscataquis of Guilford.

Josh Boone had two singles and two RBIs and Kyo Mikame an RBI single and double for the Ponies.

Bryan Wessell had an RBI single and scored two runs for the Pirates. Yall Kand and Brandon London added an RBI single apiece.

At Corinth, Scott Kelley led off the sixth inning with a triple and Josh Collins brought him home with a single to break the 9-9 tie and lead Central past Hermon.

Ben Merrill hit a three-run triple and a two-run single for Central. Jake Speed and Brenden Wilson each singled twice.

Tim Kenerson hit a three-run home run in the third inning for Hermon. Marty McLaughlin had a double and two RBIs.

At Old Town, the Coyotes scored 12 unearned two-out runs in the second inning to avenge an 11-5 loss.

Tyler Cates’ two-run single and RBI singles by Colin Ziegenbein and Dana Leland keyed the 12-run inning.

Leland drove in three runs with a double and a single, Cates had three singles and two RBIs and Kevin Demmons had a single and two RBIs.

Tyson Tash doubled and singled with an RBI for MA. Lance Bernier had two singles and Booky Nesin had a two-run double.
