Kirk’s RBI in 8th lifts Broncs past Bulldogs

HAMPDEN – Caleb Kirk hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Hampden Academy Broncos to an 8-7 high school baseball victory over the Lawrence Bulldogs Friday night.

Shawn Smith tallied three singles, a triple and an RBI while Josh Tardiff had two singles with two RBIs for the Broncos and Ryan Lindemann had three singles.

Brian Manzo hit a two-run home run and an RBI single while Jack Hersom had two singles and an RBI for Lawrence.

At Thorndike, Tyler Miles scattered seven hits and aided his own cause with two doubles and a single to help the Mustangs improve to 5-3.

Miles didn’t give up an earned run, struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. Ethan Jean paced the offense with two triples, a single and two RBIs, and Derek Keller added two singles a double and two RBIs.

Will Harmon chipped in with a double and single for the winners, Dylan Keller singled twice, Keil Lemieux had a two-run double and Ian Campbell tripled.

Dale Winchenbach singled twice and doubled for the Panthers of Waldoboro.

At Millinocket, Josh Astbury threw a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking two, and he doubled and scored the only run he was to need on Jesse Ingraham’s second-inning single.

Nick Saunders doubled and singled for George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill and Lucas Marks singled twice and had an RBI.

Garen Manzo and Corey Barnett singled for Stearns.

At Vinalhaven, Kyle Whitman hit a three-run homer and added a pair of singles good for four RBIs as Greenville triumphed.

Alex Jardine had two doubles and a single and knocked in two runs and Keith Aucoin contributed a double and two singles and an RBI.

Andrew Guptil had two doubles and two RBIs ffor Vinalhaven and Dana Tolman hit a two-run homer.

At Orono, Mike Crowley hit a grand slam as part of an eight-run third inning to spark Sumner of East Sullivan by Orono.

John Matson hit two singles while Steve Brenton had a double for the Tigers.

Ben Perry paced Orono with two doubles, two singles and three RBIs. Ben Stout doubled and singled with three RBIs while Kirk Francis added three singles for the Red Riots.

At Milo, Phil Larrabee’s two-run double and Logan Greenlaw’s run-scoring single keyed a five-run fifth-inning rally that erased an 8-5 deficit after Schenck of East Millinocket had scored four in the top of the fifth.

Jesse McLaughlin had two doubles and two RBIs for Penquis, Chad Badger singled twice and knocked in a pair and Larabee finished with three RBIs.

Ryan Thompson had three singles for Schenck, Jon Sirois doubled and singled and Dan Faloon singled twice. Sirois and Faloon each had an RBI.

At Corinth, Jake Speed drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Central past Foxcroft Academy.

Brendon Wilson had two singles and a double with an RBI while Josh Evans hit an RBI single for the Red Devils.

Ian Champeon hit a two-run home run for the Ponies. Wade Witham and Josh Boone added hit a triple.

At Guilford, the Pirates scored five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

Brandon Emerson (two RBIs) and Yaal Kand each doubled and singled for Piscataquis, while Brian Russell and Toby Cleaves hit two singles each.

Jake Jones rapped two doubles for Penobscot Valley of Howland. Joe Gilley doubled and singled.

At Bangor, Kyle Savage hit two doubles and drove in four runs to lead Bangor by Nokomis.

Shane Walton hit a home run and a single for Bangor. Jimmy Burns posted a triple and a single while Ryan Larochelle had a double and a single. Kyle Vanedestine, Ian Edwards and Jordan Clark each added a pair of singles for the Rams.

Jordan Richards doubled and singled for Nokomis while Cody Johndro hit two singles.

At Thorndike, Kayla Vannah pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking nobody, to lead the Panthers to victory.

Rachel Keefe stroked three singles for Medomak Valley of Waldoboro and Ashley Hunt doubled and singled. Tessa Dodge and Kayla Santheson tripled, while Melissa Ambridge doubled.

Cassandra St. Clair hit a triple for the Mustangs.

At Millinocket, Lydia Clapp pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 13 while walking four and hitting three batters, as George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill cruised to victory.

Alida Peake singled twice for the Eagles, while Lexi Wessel stroked a two-run single and Abby Astbury hit an RBI double.

Katie Mills hit a fourth-inning single to lead Stearns.

At Orono, the Tigers scored in every inning except the first while pulling way to beat the Red Riots.

Angela Leach tripled, doubled and singled to pace Sumner of East Sullivan. Brenn Alexander and Kayla Higgins each poked two doubles with two RBIs to back winning pitcher Tashia Daley.

Chelsea Paul and Chloe Paul hit two singles each to lead Orono. Sonya Forst posted two RBIs.

At Bangor, Sam Bedore pitched a one-hitter and Nicole Stairs hit a two-run single to highlight a three-run third-inning rally that lifted the Rams to their sixth consecutive win.

Bedore a single to the first batter she faced, then retired the next 21 batters she faced to end the game. Bedore struck out nine and walked no one while the Bangor defense did not make an error.

Amy Wadleigh added a double and single for Bangor, while Erin Dean singled twice.

At Milo, Erica Lyford pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks as Penquis cruised past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Lyford also tallied a triple, a double and five RBIs while Kayla Webb had a double and a single with three RBIs for the Patriots. Shelby Weston had three singles with an RBI and Annie Karnes added two singles with two RBIs.

Ashley Grant hit a double for Schenck.

Katelynn Stymiest posted three singles and two RBIs for Central. Kristie Collins had a triple, a double and a single with an RBI while Kara Voisine hit two singles with two RBIs.

Bekah Flanders posted two doubles and two RBIs for the Ponies.

At Hampden, Kelsey Belcher doubled twice and knocked in two runs to lead Hampden past Lawrence of Fairfield.

Michelle Wells had two singles and two RBIs and Evan Shannon an RBI double for the winners.

Paige Dicker and Lauren Marcoux singled for Lawrence.

At Pittsfield, Jordan Kennedy gave up only two hits, struck out 11 and walked just one to help Maine Central Institute win.

Brooke Libby hit a two-out, two-run double for MCI in the third and gave the Huskies the winning edge with an RBI single in the fifth.

Kristi Smith pitched a solid game in the loss, allowing six hits while striking out eight and walking one. Danielle Clark drove in a run for the Tigers.
