Sled dog club plans competition Feb. 16-17 in Kenduskeag

The Down East Sled Dog Club will welcome teams from all over New England and Canada on Feb. 16-17.

Dog sled and skijoring events are on tap all weekend long, with runs all day each day, beginning at 10 a.m. The races will be held at the Wrong Turn Pub at Kenduskeag Golf & Country Club.

The event is free to the public and spectators are encouraged to come meet the mushers.

All pets must be on a leash or left at home.

Blue Hill fast draw set

The Blue Hill Rifle & Pistol Club will host cowboy fast draw events on their indoor range during the winter months.

The dates of fast draw are Feb. 10, March 15 and April 19.

Each session begins with practice from 10 a.m. until noon, followed by a shootout match beginning at 1 p.m.

The club will supply ammunition (wax bullets and shotgun primers) and will have .45 caliber pistols and holsters available for beginning shooters. Experienced shooters may bring their own wax bullets and shotgun primers.

Shooting fees are $5 for the practice round and $10 for the shootout. Lunch is available for $5.

The April shoot is the Indoor Downeast Championship, and entry is a flat rate of $20.

Green Valley open for skiing

Green Valley Golf Course in West Enfield is now open for cross country skiing.

The facility currently has 6.5 miles of groomed trails around the golf course, and skiers can use all the trails for a $5 daily fee.

Coffee, beverages and snacks are available and the clubhouse is heated and a TV will be on for those who choose to take a break.
