Allen bets fried clams that Patriots will win

PORTLAND – U.S. Rep. Tom Allen of Maine is putting up fried clams against a case of wine in a friendly Super Bowl wager with Rep. Tim Bishop of New York.

In making the bet, the two Democrats proclaimed their allegiances to their teams – Allen for the New England Patriots and Bishop for the New York Giants.

The teams play Sunday in Arizona for the Super Bowl championship.

If the Patriots win to complete a perfect season, Allen will receive a case of wine from New York’s Long Island.

If the Giants win, Bishop gets two quarts of fried clams from the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport.
