Dwyer reaches milestone, helps Orono win 10th

MILO – Senior forward Seth Dwyer scored 11 points, including the 1,000th of his career, Monday night as the Orono Red Riots cruised to a 70-46 boys basketball victory over Penquis.

Bruce Nason and Joe Riemersma scored 12 points each for the Red Riots.

Brian Zwicker led Penquis with 11.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Brandon Paul scored a goal and assisted on two to help the Red Riots edge the Broncos.

Nathan Curtis chipped in with a goal and an assist for 5-7-1 Orono while Ben Perry and Mark Cloutier each notched an assist. Tanner Francis, Dustin Goudreau and Kirk Francis had an assist apiece and David Eugley made 24 saves.

Sam McNutt scored off an assist from Kevin Brown for 5-8 Hampden and Wesley Woods converted a Josh Tardiff pass for the second goal. Jacob Ward made 17 saves.

John Bapst 3, Gardiner 1

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor on Saturday, Nick Mitchell scored a goal with 1:05 remaining in the game to break a 1-1 tie and Andrew Casey added an empty-net goal to seal the win for John Bapst.

Ryan Hayes scored for John Bapst in the first period. Casey tallied two assists while Neil LaFrance had one. Derek Duff stopped 22 of 23 shots for the 10-3 Crusaders.

Joe Fischer netted a goal for Gardiner in the second period. Chris Howe made 27 saves on 29 shots for the 7-3-2 Tigers.

Bird scores 1,000th point

At Lee, Dana Houghton scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Pandas rolled to their 12th win.

Lee senior Karin Bird scored nine points, including the 1,000th of her career midway through the first quarter. She needed five points going into the game.

Aarika Ritchie tossed in 16 points for Lee and Amanda Gifford added 13.

Kayla Stevens paced the Cougars of Stacyville with 14 points followed by Olivia McNally with 13.

Kelsee McLaughlin poured in 17 points to lead Washburn to its 14th victory. Erica McDougall added 13, including eight in the fourth quarter and a 6-for-7 effort from the line.

Mindy Chasse paced Ashland with 17 points.
