Mitchell sparks Shead Woodland boys, girls beat Lubec

EASTPORT – Dana Mitchell led four Shead scorers in double figures with 20 points as the Tigers rolled to a 70-57 boys basketball victory over Machias Monday night.

Thomas Pottle scored 16 points while Wayne Clossey and Justin Lewey each added 13 for Shead.

Michael Little paced Machias with 14 points while Noah Prescott added 12 for the Bulldogs.

Woodland went on a decisive 30-10 second-quarter run to put the game away by halftime.

Elan sweeps Lubec

At Auburn Saturday, Elan of Poland swept Lubec in a doubleheader, taking the first game 51-44 and notching a 51-32 triumph in the nightcap.

In the opener, Malcolm Turner scored six of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter to help erase a three-point deficit.

Lee Gach had 11 points for the winners and Eric Grethe had eight more.

Shayn McPherson and Timmy Gross had 11 points each for Lubec and Tim Farmer had nine.

In the nightcap, Gach’s 15 points and Turner’s 14 powered Elan and Carlo Figuirdo had 10.

Gross’ 13 points and Jacob Robbins’ eight led Lubec.

At Orono, Nathan Curtis scored four goals to power Orono by Camden Hills.

Brandon Paul tallied two goals and four assists while Ben Perry, Kirk Francis and Nick Dimoulas each added a goal for Orono. David Eugley made 25 saves on 29 shots for the 3-6 Red Riots.

Zac Dufour led Camden Hills with two goals and an assist. Kyle Koskinen and Winsor Williams each added a goal and an assist. Jake Filderman stopped 28 of 37 shots for the 1-7 Windjammers.

Katie Libby scored 16 points to lead the Patriots.

At Millinocket, Adriana Eurich scored 13 of her game-high 14 points in the second half as Stearns pulled away for the victory.

April Davis chipped in 12 points for the Minutemen, who outscored Piscataquis Community of Guilford 31-17 over the final two quarters.

Christine Davis paced the Pirates with 13 points.
