HARTLAND – Crosswinds Tuesday were being blamed for the capsizing of an 18-foot sailboat on Great Moose Lake, plunging two men into the water.
Hartland Fire Chief Donny Neal said the stiff breezes also helped in the men’s rescue, as they were able to hold onto the overturned boat as it drifted closer to shore.
The incident happened off Salmon Circle on the western side of the lake, Neal said. He said both men were wet and shivering but did not require medical treatment. He did not release their names.
Neal said a neighbor assisted the men in getting the boat to shore. They capsized and returned to shore near their grandmother’s camp and immediately went inside to get warm and dry, Neal said.
Hartland Fire Department had requested a rescue boat from the Pittsfield Fire Department but it was not needed.
