NEWPORT – Two people were seriously injured Wednesday night when their vehicles collided in a severe rainstorm.
Gillian Hartsgrove, 23, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet sedan and Winston McTague, 42, was driving a 1992 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when they crashed on U.S. Route 2 in front of North Newport Grocery.
Hartsgrove was exiting the store parking lot and McTague was headed west into Newport, Police Chief Leonard Macdaid said Thursday.
The crash remains under investigation, he said.
Macdaid said the victims’ injuries were life-threatening at the scene of the crash but that both drivers had improved by Thursday.
Macdaid said that both vehicles were demolished and Maine State Police Trooper Mark Poulin was called in to help Newport police reconstruct the crash.
