Taxi company owner fined in assault case

ELLSWORTH – The owner of a Bar Harbor taxi company was found guilty of assault last week at the end of a trial in District Court.

Gerald “Geddy” Mitchell, 60, of Bar Harbor was ordered to pay a $300 fine after being found guilty Friday of the assault in Ellsworth District Court by Judge David Griffiths, according to court documents.

William Entwisle, assistant district attorney for Hancock County, said Tuesday that on Sept. 19, 2006, Mitchell had an exchange of words with the owner of a competing taxi company as they were waiting for The Cat ferry to arrive at its Bar Harbor terminal from Canada.

Mitchell took exception to where the other man had parked and, during the altercation, grabbed the other man’s arm, Entwisle said.

Mitchell, who also is known as Panama Geddy, is owner of Mount Desert Island Taxi & Tour Co.
