STANDISH – St. Joseph’s defeated Husson 10-1 and Castleton State beat UMaine-Farmington 16-1 in North Atlantic Conference baseball playoff games Friday.
The double-elimination tourney resumes today with Husson and UMF squaring off in an elimination game, followed by St. Joseph’s against Castleton.
In the nightcap, Sam Tupper scattered one run on eight hits and struck out eight in a complete-game effort as Saint Joseph’s thumped Husson of Bangor.
Mark Clapp hit an RBI single in the first inning and added an RBI double in the third for the Monks. Chris Doughty and Dan Enman each added RBI singles in the third.
Jeff Miller and Bryan Biggers had two singles apiece for Husson.
In the first game, Chris Regis hit a double and two singles to drive in four runs to lead Castleton State College of Vermont past the University of Maine at Farmington in the North Atlantic Conference first round, double-elimination tournament.
Travis Bass had three singles and three RBIs for Castleton State and Eric Anderson hit a double and two singles with three runs scored.
Tyler Hanson doubled and knocked in a run for the Beavers and Matt Judkins doubled.

At Gorham, Brandon Leonard hit two doubles and knocked in two runs to lead Wheaton College to the victory over the University of Southern Maine.
Junior Louie Bernardi allowed one run on five hits to improve to 7-0 for Wheaton.
Eddie Skeffington singled twice for the Huskies and Ryan Bourque knocked in a run.

At Brunswick, Jon Koperniak knocked an RBI triple in the first inning to get host Bowdoin started en route to the win over Colby of Waterville.
Nick Lawler, Joe Berte, Koperniak and Pat Duchette each had an RBI single in a four-run fourth inning for the Polar Bears.
Tom Salemy, Andy Carr and Steve Sandak all singled for Colby.

At Providence, RI, junior Ashlee Nicholson scatted four hits to earn the shutout victory and improve to 14-1 and lead No. 2 Keene State College past No. 5 University of Southern Maine of Gorham.
With the loss, the Huskies are eliminated from the tournament.
Kaitly Conklin tripled and singled to drive in two runs for Keene State.
Senior Christen Lachapelle led the Huskies with three singles.

At Newton, Mass., sophomore Tiffany Perla drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Lasell College past Husson College of Bangor in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament.
Husson dropped both games on the day, losing to the University of Maine at Farmington 6-3.
Perla had a double and two singles with three RBIs for the Lasers.
