Orono man to discuss Maine guns during lecture in Augusta

Gun enthusiasts can learn more about the subject on March 11 as Old Fort Western’s Winter Lecture Series features the program “Maine Made Guns and their Makers.”

The program will be held at 2 p.m. in the learning gallery of Augusta City Hall on Cony Street.

The lecture is based on the 1997 edition of the book of the same name by Dwight B. Demeritt Jr. Demeritt will be the speaker and will exhibit some of the guns he talks about.

A retired lawyer who lives in Orono, Demeritt maintains an active interest in American history. In addition to Maine Made Guns and their Makers, he has written several articles on the American Revolution and 19th century American arms manufacturers. He is a member and former director of the American Society of Arms Collectors.

The full schedule of lectures is available at www.oldfortwestern.org or by calling 626-2385.

Thanks to a cooperative agreement with Tilbury House Publishers, Demeritt’s book will be on sale at the lecture.
