Official IDs woman who died in Etna fire

ETNA – The state medical examiner’s office positively identified on Monday the woman who died earlier this month in a fire on the Old County Road.

The examiner was able to identify the woman as 53-year-old Dale Scheissler.

Scheissler was the state’s first fire victim of the year, and her cause of death and what started the fire that destroyed her two-story farmhouse remain under investigation, according to Sgt. Timothy York of the state fire marshal’s office.

Crews from five area departments responded to the fire around 1 a.m. Jan. 12. The fire not only burned Scheissler’s home, but also more than an acre of grass and a vehicle in the driveway.

Some of the woman’s animals, including dogs and a goat that were in the house, also perished.
