Painful disrespect

I just watched my only child, Robert “Bobby” Dow, die a horrific, painful death. No mother should have to witness such a day.

Could you imagine my shock when I read the article (BDN, Jan. 4) restating the charges against Robert the day after his obituary? There was a great deal of disrespect shown when the article made reference to his obituary. As if it was necessary to rub salt into an open wound.

Robert was more than just another news story to his family and friends. We should have been shown an iota of respect. We could have been given at least time enough to bury him, if not a chance to grieve.

Remember there are two sides to every story and Robert never got his chance.

Everybody involved knew of Robert’s illness and he wasn’t given the opportunity to set the record straight. Robert was a great defendant. The DA’s office could charge him with anything they could think of and when all was said and done they wouldn’t have to prove a thing.

In the future, maybe deciding what is newsworthy should be weighed against what is necessary. You cannot make me believe that it was necessary to completely disrespect a deceased man, his family and friends like this.

H. Marie Dow
