Bucksport man charged with aggravated assault

BUCKSPORT – A local man remained in custody Tuesday charged with aggravated assault and as a fugitive from justice.

Bucksport police officers arrested Keith Alan Ayotte, 34, on Sunday evening after he allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old woman at an apartment on First Street earlier in the day. The woman suffered extensive injuries to her face and head, according to Sgt. Sean Geagan, and police are still investigating whether a weapon was used in the assault.

The woman was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth for treatment of her injuries.

Officers interviewed the victim at the hospital and based on that information arrested Ayotte on Sunday evening. He was taken to the Hancock County Jail where he remained as of Tuesday.

In addition to the charge of aggravated assault, Ayotte also is being held at the jail as a fugitive from justice. Authorities in New Hampshire have issued a warrant for Ayotte’s arrest charging him with a parole violation stemming from a previous kidnapping charge, Geagan said. There were no details available regarding those charges.
