Shelter: Consider adopting senior pets

CHERRYFIELD – The Ark Animal Shelter has announced that November is “Adopt-a-Senior-Pet” month.

Shelter staff encourages those looking for a pet to consider older cats and dogs for adoption. They emphasize that senior pets make good companions for senior people, as the animals are usually quieter and less active than puppies or kittens.

In celebration of Adopt-a-Senior-Pet month, the shelter has started its “Golden Years” program, which waives adoption fees for pets 8 years old and older adopted by people 60 years and older.

Interested parties can see pictures of animals available for adoption on the “Golden Years” Web site, www.thearkpets.org/goldenyears.html. The shelter is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. and Wednesday-Friday. For more information call 546-3484 or e-mail theark@midmaine.com.
