News in brief BANGOR: SCHOOL SUPPORTS HEALTH PROJECT

Fruit Street School is encouraging everyone to be more health-conscious this year, Principal Joe Dahl said Thursday. Teachers are participating in an online activity log that’s part of a statewide health and fitness program called Maine in Motion, he said. Pupils take walks every Tuesday morning, the physical education instructor has incorporated more movement into gym activities, and parents have been asked to contribute healthful snacks instead of cupcakes for classroom celebrations. On Dec. 14, Maine in Motion will provide teachers and pupils with walking sticks. “They help give you a better workout,” Dahl said.
