Duo indicted in heroin trafficking Washington County grand jury lists range of charges against 29 people

MACHIAS – A Washington County couple, Hattie Alley of Jonesport and Alexis Velez of Beals, were indicted Tuesday on charges of trafficking in heroin by the Washington County grand jury.

Alley, 24, faces a Class B charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, and Class C charges of furnishing and possession of scheduled drugs. Velez, 42, faces the Class B charge of unlawful trafficking and the Class C charges of furnishing and possession of scheduled drugs.

Alley and Velez were arrested last month in Harrington on what began as a routine stop during an operating under the influence detail by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Travis Willey searched their car and found 156 bags of heroin and $3,000 in cash.

They were taken into custody at Washington County Jail on $100,000 cash bail each. The bails later were reduced to $50,000 cash each or $100,000 in real estate.

They were among 29 men and women charged by the grand jury. Others include:

Michael T. Jadu, 43, Jonesboro, Class C reckless conduct, Class C terrorizing, Class C criminal threatening, Class E disarming a firearm near a dwelling, Class E disarming a firearm near a school, Class E violation of condition of release.

Mark M. McCurdy, 49, Machias, Class C possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Class D assault, Class C unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class D illegal possession of hypodermic apparatuses, Class C operating after revocation.

David J. Michaud, 26, Lee, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, two counts; Class C failure to appear.

Jayson P. Richard, 38, Machias, Class C unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class D unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class E unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class C possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Class E violation of condition of release.

Peter L. Richard, 48, Machias, Class C unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class D unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class E unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, Class E violation of condition of release.

Megan T. Verrill, 22, Holden, Class C theft by unauthorized taking.

James S. Bailey, 20, Columbia, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, Class E violation of condition of release, Class B burglary, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, Class C aggravated criminal mischief.

Jacob R. Cirone, 24, Addison, Class B burglary, four counts; Class C theft by unauthorized taking, two counts; Class C aggravated criminal mischief, three counts; Class D criminal mischief; Class E theft by unauthorized taking, two counts.

Jonathan L. Johnson, 23, Addison, Class B burglary, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, Class C aggravated criminal mischief.

Heidi R. Landeen, 23, Jonesport, Class B burglary, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, Class C aggravated criminal mischief.

Brian E. Stanwood Jr., 20, Steuben, Class C burglary, Class E theft by unauthorized taking.

Joseph E. Moore, 20, Machiasport. Class B burglary, Class B theft by unauthorized taking, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, Class C possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Amanda Taylor, 23, Machias, Class B receiving stolen property, Class D receiving stolen property.

Daniel E. Newman, 22, Princeton, Class C unlawful possession of scheduled drugs; Class E violation of condition of release, two counts.

Frederick Thurlow III, 59, Princeton, Class B unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.
