OLD TOWN – While the Old Town Coyotes and the Mount Desert Isle Trojans squared off Friday on the football field, someone was making a play for their money and other valuables in their locker rooms.
The theft of credit cards and money from both teams’ locker rooms was discovered after the game was suspended because of a thunderstorm, Old Town High School Principal Joe Gallant said Monday night.
The players returned to the locker rooms to find that their lockers and personal items had been rifled through. The lockers had been left unlocked during the game.
How much was taken was still under investigation, the principal said.
“We’re still gathering that information,” Gallant said.
The Old Town Police Department was called as soon as the thefts were discovered, he said.
