ORLAND – Two people were injured in a head-on collision on Route 1 Thursday morning.
According to Deputy Rob Morang of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred near the intersection with Route 15.
Robert Broussard, 79, of Lamoine was traveling behind a vehicle that slowed to turn into a convenience store at the intersection, Morang said. Broussard was traveling too close to the vehicle ahead of him and swerved to avoid hitting that car from the rear. He pulled into the southbound lane into the path of a vehicle driven by Mark Fahy, 39, of Verona, N.J. The two vehicles hit head-on.
Broussard and Fahy suffered minor injuries in the accident. Joan Broussard, 66, a passenger in Broussard’s vehicle, and Susan Gottilla, 45, a passenger in Fahy’s vehicle, were taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. There was no word on their condition late Thursday afternoon.
The two vehicles, Broussard’s, 2006 Chevy pickup and Fahy’s 2005 Dodge sedan, were considered total losses after the accident.
