News in brief HARTLAND: MADISON WOMAN CHARGED IN DRUG BUST

A woman stopped on Wednesday night for speeding 84 mph in a 45 mph zone was arrested moments later when police found drugs in her vehicle. Ada Webb, 23, of Madison was stopped by Trooper Christopher Carr on Route 43 moments after she pulled into a driveway at Stafford Pond to avoid the officer, he said. Carr said a male passenger fled the 1980 BMW on foot and entered nearby woods. Carr found 148 Ecstasy pills, LSD, a small amount of marijuana and an unknown liquid in the car. Ecstasy is a semi-synthetic chemical compound that can be snorted, swallowed, smoked or injected, and sells for $10 to $30 per pill. Assisted by Trooper Bernard Brunette and his police dog and Somerset County Deputy Michael Night, Carr initiated a search for the passenger, but he was not located. Carr said Webb was charged with criminal speed, drug trafficking, improper attachment of registration plates, possession of Ecstasy and possession of LSD. She remained Thursday in Somerset County Jail on $5,000 bail.
