News in brief DOVER-FOXCROFT: KOKADJO BUSINESSMAN AWARDED WINTER MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

Fred Candeloro of Kokadjo Construction Inc. was awarded a three-year winter maintenance contract for 10.86 miles of the Lily Bay and Frenchtown roads when Piscataquis County commissioners met on Tuesday. No offers were received when commissioners solicited bids earlier this year for the project, and the former contractor opted not to extend his services. Candeloro will receive $7,000 per mile for the work per year, compared to $5,100 per mile paid to the previous contractor. Candeloro will be reimbursed if gasoline prices exceed $3.50 per gallon, if salt exceeds $90 per ton and if the cost to put up sand exceeds $4 a cubic yard. Next year and the following year, Candeloro is expected to plow an additional 6 miles of the Frenchtown Road for which he will receive an additional $42,000 in annual income.
