Unity class donates $1,500 to arts center

UNITY – FUTURE MSAD 3 has received a $1,500 contribution from the Mount View High School graduating Class of 2006 to support the campaign for a 300-seat performing arts center in the new Mount View school complex.

The $575,000 campaign will fund the electrical infrastructure, theatrical sound and lighting, acoustical design, a thrust stage and curtains, catwalk, control booth and mezzanine, transforming the basic auditorium in the state-funded construction plan, into a true performing arts center.

The gift from the Class of 2006 will be matched by the Unity Foundation, which announced a $250,000 challenge grant in honor of foundation founders Bert G. and Coral B. Clifford last May.

Tanya Hubbard, senior class adviser at Mount View High School, said the Class of 2006 was excited about both the project and making a gift that would be matched by the Unity Foundation.

FUTURE MSAD 3 is a nonprofit organization run by community volunteers. Their mission is to raise funds to enhance particular areas in the new Mount View school complex not covered by state funding. Mount View students have used the existing cafeteria as a performing arts venue for the past 40 years.
