McLaggan leads MCI by Foxcroft Orono, Searsport, Calais, SAHS record first-round playoff victories

PITTSFIELD – Tiffany McLaggan scored both goals as the No. 7 Maine Central Institute Huskies edged the No. 10 Foxcroft Academy Ponies 2-1 in a high school girls Class B soccer playoff game Tuesday.

Jana McCarthy assisted on one of the goals for the 6-7-2 Huskies. Bianca Asaro had 10 saves on 11 shots.

Lindsay Chase scored for the 5-7-3 Ponies. Sarah Whittemore stopped eight of 13 shots.

Class C

Orono 2, Houlton 1 (OT)

At Houlton, Heather Woodbrey netted two unassisted goals, including the game-winner three minutes into overtime, to lead No. 9 Orono by No. 8 Houlton.

Brittney Pinkham made eight saves on 12 shots for the 9-4-2 Red Riots.

Emily Bartlett scored the tying goal for Houlton in the second half. Brittany Guiod recorded the assist. Bethany Targonski blocked 10 of 12 shots for the 6-8-1 Shiretowners.

Searsport 2, Piscataquis 1

At Guilford, Martha Landmesser scored on a scramble in front of the goal with 8:51 remaining as No. 10 Searsport defeated No. 7 Piscataquis.

Breanna Kinsbury notched the other goal for the 7-8 Vikings. Amanda Cheney made five saves on seven shots.

Cyndi Currier netted the lone goal for the Pirates, who finish at 7-4-4. Jill Martel recorded 16 saves on 19 shots.

Calais 2, Sumner 1

At Calais, Courtney Hill netted a goal with 1:21 remaining in the game as No. 6 Calais downed No. 11 Sumner of East Sullivan.

Kayla Cobb chipped in a goal for the 10-4-1 Blue Devils. Stephanie Perry made four saves on seven shots.

Kylie Bragdon notched a goal and Morgan Turner made four saves on nine shots for the 5-9-1 Tigers.

Class D

So. Aroostook 1, Wisdom 0 (OT)

At Dyer Brook, Evangeline Goodall scored on a rebound with slightly less than three minutes left in the first overtime as No. 4 Southern Aroostook outlasted No. 13 Wisdom of Saint Agatha.

Kaylea Collier took the original shot on Wisdom goalie Kayla Daigle, but Daigle blocked that attempt and Goodall scored amid the subsequent scramble in the goal crease.

Daigle was strong in goal for the 4-10-1 Pioneers, making 37 saves on 65 shots. Erin Caswell and Emily Cummings combined to make four saves on five shots for 13-2 Southern Aroostook.

Fort Fairfield 4, LCS/MSSM 0

At Fort Fairfield, Sadie Ayoob netted two goals and assisted on another to lead No. 6 Fort Fairfield past No. 11 Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Kerri Cunningham scored two goals and Amber Forsman tallied an assist for the 8-7 Tigers. Kellie Osgood stopped all 15 shots she faced.

Melanie Allen made 20 saves on 24 shots for the Eagles, who finish up at 5-10.

Washburn 2, Woodland 0

At Washburn, Erica McDougall tallied a goal and an assist as No. 5 Washburn held off No. 12 Woodland.

Morgan Burbe scored a goal and Kristen Goupilled notched an assist for the 12-3 Beavers. Rachel Palmer earned the shut out without facing a shot.

Cindy Bergin made 12 saves on 42 shots for the 4-10-1 Dragons.

Katahdin 6, Shead 1

At Eastport, Ronni Robinson scored two goals and assisted on another as No. 10 Katahdin of Stacyville rolled past No. 7 Shead.

Jasmine Cyr and Clarissa Gallagher each tallied a goal and an assist, and Kali Rush and JaimeLee Anderson had a goal apiece. Kayla Stevens made four saves on eight shots for the 5-8-2 Cougars.

Patricia Candelmo scored the lone goal for the 6-8-1 Tigers. Dorothy Pottle made 11 saves on 20 shots.

Ashland 1, Calvary Chapel 0 (OT)

At Hampden, Mindy Chasse scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Autumn Cobb with 1:50 remaining in overtime to lift No. 9 Ashland past No. 8 Calvary Chapel of Orrington.

Taylor Baker stopped all four shots she faced for the 6-7-2 Hornets.

Hannah Lacadie stopped 13 of 14 shots for the 8-6-1 Sabers.

Field hockey

Class A

Oxford Hills 3, Hampden Acad. 0

At South Paris, Katie Martin scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the No. 2 Vikings to victory.

Kaymala Eells added a goal in the second half for 11-3-1 Oxford Hills, while Kaitlin Crockett and Teira Durgin each chipped in with an assist.

No. 7 Hampden Academy had an 8-3 edge in penalty corners, but Oxford Hills outshot the Broncos 8-4.

Oxford Hills goalie Alekysy Pike made four saves, while Katie Hessert made five stops for 9-5-2 Hampden.

Class B

Camden Hills 2, Nokomis 1

At Rockport, Megan Bauer scored the game-winning goal with 13:44 remaining to lift No. 2 Camden Hills over No. 7 Nokomis of Newport.

Amanda Kava notched a goal and Kate Fetterman had two assists for the 11-4 Windjammers. Dale Winsper made six saves on seven shots.

Allison Berg scored on a Sabrina Vaillancourt assist for the 4-9-2 Warriors. Beth Flanders recorded five saves on seven shots.

Waterville 3, Mount View 2

At Waterville, Alli McDonnelle’s penalty stroke in the second half gave the third-seeded Panthers a 3-1 lead and the margin of victory over No. 6 Mount View of Thorndike.

Danielle Fossa scored off a Jess Defelice assist in the first half and Jenna Jolicoeur converted a Chanell Lansley assist in the second half for the 9-3-2 Panthers. Kristen Tormollan made four saves on six shots.

Kristin Masessa scored off a Britany Bowden assist for the 8-7 Mustangs and Molly Arute tallied an unassisted goal. Colleen Holland made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Class C

Dexter 1, Hall-Dale 0

At Dexter, Jana Kenney scored in the 18th set of penalty corners as No. 2 Dexter edged No. 7 Hall-Dale of Farmingdale.

Olivia Gardner was credited with the assist for 10-3-2 Dexter. Katie Poirier had six saves on seven shots.

Alyssa Withee stopped seven out of 10 shots for the 8-6-1 Bulldogs.

Boys soccer

Class D

Bangor Christian 3, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Phil Doughtery netted two goals as No. 10 Bangor Christian shut out No. 7 Schenck.

Brandon Wilcox scored a goal and Zack Kutz added an assist for the 8-6-1 Patriots. Sam McLeod made 20 saves on 22 shots.

Lanny Thompson recorded 24 saves on 28 shots for the 5-9-1 Wolverines.

Shead 1, Lee 0

At Lee, Aaron Sullivan scored 3:00 into the second half as No. 13 Shead of Eastport upset No. 4 Lee Academy.

Craig Hastings made 15 saves on 21 shots for the 8-4-3 Tigers.

Jon Connick made 12 saves on 14 shots for the Pandas, who finish 7-6-2.
