Is it my imagination or is the op-ed by Michael S Hamilton, “Referendum on greed vs community” (BDN, Oct. 11), over the top?
Comparing TABOR supporters to Germans marching behind the Third Reich is insulting and not worthy of any university professor I ever met.
Citizens are overwhelmed by high taxes. They see state services misused and expensive projects like the Penobscot Narrows Bridge necessitated because of state neglect. They see folks bilking the system unopposed by regulation.
In short, they are mad. So the way we let off steam in these United States is, we pound government with people’s voice. It sure beats cutting off heads as they did in an overtaxed France, or murdering the leaders as they did in an overtaxed Russia.
But not to worry. The majority of Mainers like high taxes, so it will never pass, even with my vote.
