22 charged in fall drug sweep

SKOWHEGAN – The annual fall drug sweep, timed to coincide with the harvesting of marijuana, has resulted in 22 area people being charged with drug violations.

The sweep also netted 850 marijuana plants, more than 60 pounds of processed marijuana – valued at more than $133,200 – more than 5,000 pills, an undetermined amount of cocaine, $7,000 in cash, firearms, an all-terrain vehicle, two generators, cultivation equipment, stolen property and drug paraphernalia.

“These searches have taken a large volume of illicit drugs off the streets,” Somerset County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi II said Sunday. He added that the street value of the pills was in excess of $30,000, and the value of the property and cash exceeds $20,000.

Gottardi said that over the past several weeks search warrants were executed in Detroit, Pittsfield, Palmyra, St. Albans, Canaan, Skowhegan, Norridgewock, Mayfield Township, Brighton Township, Smithfield, Starks, Harmony, Cornville, Embden and Athens.

Gottardi said that as the drugs are processed, charges against some of the people will be upgraded. Those charged include:

Jaime Danforth, 28, Canaan, trafficking and violation of bail conditions.

Timber Bowring, 44, Norridgewock, possession of cocaine and furnishing drugs.

Gregory Jewell, 44, Skowhegan, cultivation of marijuana, trafficking, possession and violation of bail conditions.

Brett Johnson, 24, Canaan, possession of drugs.

Peter Jewell, 59, Smithfield, cultivation of marijuana and trafficking.

Scott Leonard, 33, Norridgewock, trafficking and cultivation of marijuana.

William DeGraff, 30, Norridgewock, trafficking and cultivation of marijuana.

Michael Buckley, 49, Harmony, trafficking and cultivation of marijuana.

Scott Lovely, 35, Palmyra, trafficking, cultivation of marijuana and possession.

Eugene Sheridan, 49, St. Albans, possession and furnishing of drugs.

Kim Sheridan, 48, St. Albans, possession and furnishing of drugs.

Richard Fournier, 51, Cornville, cultivation of marijuana and furnishing of drugs.

Stephen Kennedy, 47, Pittsfield, aggravated furnishing of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school (Maine Central Institute).
