Katahdin Lake project

I read with great interest the recent article about the latest controversial land transfer in northern Maine and your editorial about the same. Both mentioned the ongoing Katahdin Lake project, which in stark contrast, is something most everyone agrees is a terrific idea and would make a wonderful addition to Baxter State Park, fulfilling the original vision of park founder Gov. Percival Baxter.

To successfully close the deal on Katahdin Lake, a great deal of money must still be raised by the deadline, Dec. 15. I urge everyone to contribute to the Katahdin Lake campaign by visiting the Trust for Public Land Web site at www.katahdinlakecampaign.org or send a check, made out to The Trust for Public Land Katahdin Lake Campaign, to: Trust for Public Land, 377 Fore St., Third Floor, Portland 04101.

An opportunity is knocking that may not come again soon. Let’s complete one of Maine’s greatest conservation legacies and bring Katahdin Lake into Baxter State Park.
