HOULTON – Two people were taken to Houlton Regional Hospital after an accident Thursday on North Street caused minor traffic delays.
Houlton police Cpl. Tom Donahue said the accident occurred just before 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Street and Putnam Avenue.
He said Mona Spinney, 79, driving a 1994 Oldsmobile, was waiting at the stop sign on Putnam Avenue and preparing to pull out onto North Street.
Susan Harvey, 40, of Linneus was southbound on North Street in her 1995 Pontiac Sunfire with a passenger, Kimberly Harvey, 20.
Spinney apparently did not see Harvey’s vehicle as she pulled out onto North Street, and the two vehicles collided.
“There was nothing that Harvey could do to stop in time,” Donahue said Thursday. “Spinney pulled right out in front of her.”
Both the Harveys and Spinney were wearing seat belts.
Kimberly Harvey complained of pain and was taken to the hospital. Spinney also was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Houlton police Officer Stephen Nason is the primary investigator.
No charges will be filed, according to police. Both vehicles had significant damage but were insured.
The Houlton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
