MACHIAS – “Taxing Maine,” the traveling theatrical performance backed by the Maine Humanities Council, takes the stage in Machias this evening.
The show is at 7 p.m. at the University of Maine at Machias’ Performing Arts Center.
A 30-minute discussion with the audience takes place after each performance. The show is free, open to the public and appropriate for teenagers and adults.
Through different historical characters, humor, facts and thought-provoking stories, “Taxing Maine” explores what taxes mean for Maine communities, the state government, the Maine landscape and Mainers’ wallets.
Featuring David Greenham and Monmouth actor Dennis A. Price, the 30-minute show encourages audiences to consider how history and a range of opinions and beliefs about taxes have influenced the state’s current tax system.
The show is available for other towns at no cost to towns or organizations. Information on scheduling “Taxing Maine” performances is available from Victoria Bonebakker at 773-5051 or vbonebak@mainehumanities.org for information.
