Otter Creek man held in MDI burglaries

BAR HARBOR – An Otter Creek man was being held Monday in connection with two burglaries at eating establishments in the heart of this resort community, according to Bar Harbor police.

Vincent Abbott, 32, was arrested at his residence at about 5 p.m. Monday after police executed a search warrant on his property and located a safe taken in one of the burglaries containing cash and merchandise worth approximately $6,000, according to Bar Harbor Police Chief Nate Young.

The establishments – Little Anthony’s Restaurant on Cottage Street and McKay’s Public House on Main Street – were burglarized sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning. Young said attempted burglaries occurred at two other Bar Harbor establishments – Mama DiMatteo’s on Rodick Street and Ollie’s Trolley Ice Cream Shop on Cottage Street. He said the investigation into all four incidents is continuing and more arrests are possible.

Abbott, who was arrested by Sgt. David Kerns, also faces charges of violation of probation and violation of conditions of release, Young said. Abbott was to be taken to Hancock County Jail later Monday night. He had previously been convicted of being a habitual offender involving motor vehicle violations.
