If you’ve never heard of the Plan for a New American Century (PNAC), please look it up right away. This secret society is the key behind the neocon hijacking of America and the society-breaking war in Iraq.
PNAC is a political think-tank, created in 1997 by a group of ultra-conservative shapers of public opinion. After the insanity of the 2000 elections, George Bush appointed 16 PNAC members to important positions in the government, and you know the names well: Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Armitage, John Bolton, Elliott Abrams, Scooter Libby and many others.
In 1998 they urged President Clinton to overthrow Saddam Hussein as a key to their goals. In September 2000, the PNAC wrote ominously: “The process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor.” This war was planned for years before Sept. 11.
Bush is a genius as a mouthpiece for the PNAC, the religious right and others. But how hard is it to use our Sept 11 Pearl Harbor to drive Christians against Democrats? To split the country in two? It’s like shooting fish in a barrel for someone like Bush, or Joe McCarthy. And in this greatest of nations, it is even easier to whip up a war fever in a climate of terror, and this is their greatest crime: the violation of this most sacred covenant, asking our young soldiers to die fighting for the political gains and pipe-dreams of awful power-merchants like Cheney and PNAC.
Get my soldiers, my neighbors, my family out of Iraq now, then start to fix problems the right way: with honor and enlightenment, and the help of the whole world.
It’s been five bad years for my poor country I love.
