Dr. Joost saved boy’s life

We were saddened to read in the Bangor Daily News recently of Dr. Arthur Joost’s death.

Many years ago in the late 1950s, our son Terry, then 11 months old, became seriously ill. It was a time when doctors made house calls. I tried to call our family physician but he couldn’t be reached. Desperate for help, I called the Bucksport Fire Department, which in turn contacted Dr. Joost whose private practice was right in Bucksport; we lived eight miles away.

It was a bitter cold winter night when he arrived at our home. Because of his quick decision our baby was rushed to a local hospital where he stayed for a week and in time became well and strong. Without Dr. Joost’s help that night our son would have died.

Many times over the years we have thought back to that night and felt such gratitude for this caring doctor. He must have been a wonderful father and grandfather and his family was truly blessed to have had him in our lives for so many years.

May he rest in peace.
