Salmon clubs to meet, eat

The three Atlantic salmon clubs in the Bangor area will host their second combined banquet on Oct. 14 at the Bangor Conference Center on Hogan Road.

The event is a fund-raising banquet to support community programs, student enrichment, in-school incubation tanks, river cruises and the restoration of the Penobscot River via the Conservation Trust Fund.

The banquet starts at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s master of ceremonies is Bill Green, a Bangor native who now works for WCSH-TV in Portland.

Guest speakers will be Chuck Allen, a former Maine Game Warden who now serves as the manager of photographic operations in the creative department of L.L. Bean, Steve Gephard, one of three U.S. NASCO commissioners, and Amos Orcutt, the president/CEO of the University of Maine Foundation.

Sportsman’s forum on tap

The Bucksmills Rod & Gun Club in Bucksport will host a sportsman’s forum on Oct. 18. Supper will be served at 6 p.m., with the forum to follow.

The meal costs $5, but those wishing to attend only the forum have free admission.

The forum will feature presentations and question-and-answer sessions with Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife commissioner Roland “Danny” Martin, as well as biologists, wardens and advisory council members.

Izaak Walton League meeting set

The Maine Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will hold its annual meeting on Oct. 15 from noon until 5 p.m. at Maine Audubon’s Fields Pond Nature Center in Orrington.

The public is welcome. There will be a social hour from noon until 1 p.m.

Speakers will be Rick Summer, the regional governer of the IWLA for Region VI, Merry Gallagher, a fisheries biologist for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Ian Burnes of the Northern Forest Alliance, and Mark McCullough of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
