STOCKTON SPRINGS – The estimated cost of replacing tires slashed overnight Monday was placed at $10,000.
Waldo County Deputy Jason Bosco said the department received 26 complaints of slashed tires during the course of the day Tuesday.
He said the majority of the complaints came from the village and nearby Cape Jellison. Residents awoke that morning to find tires on their vehicles flattened. Puncture marks indicate the tires were stabbed with a knife. Bosco said many car owners had all four tires slashed.
“We’re talking more than $10,000 in tires,” Bosco said Wednesday.
Bosco said many owners called tow trucks, had their cars elevated and removed the wheels and took them to be refitted with new tires. Others had them towed to a tire store.
Bosco and Detective Greg Stearns are handling the investigation.
