Thomaston man held in drug, weapons case

THOMASTON – An investigation based on a tip to police led to the arrest of a local man and the seizure of $2,000 worth of cocaine and a cache of weapons, Police Chief Kevin Haj reported Monday.

Tom Sawyer, 45, of Thomaston was charged last week with felony possession of cocaine, Kevin said.

Sawyer was released from Knox County Jail on $1,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear Dec. 26 in 6th District Court in Rockland, a jail officer said Monday.

The investigation by Officers Tim Hoppe and David Johnson resulted in a search of Sawyer’s home on Thursday, Haj said. Twenty-eight grams of cocaine were found, as were seven rifles and two handguns. Sawyer was arrested later that day.
