Investigators probe Bucksport garage fire

BUCKSPORT – State fire officials are investigating a fire that destroyed a garage Friday night.

“The origin of the fire is undetermined and it remains under investigation,” said Sgt. Tim York, an investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire call came in at about 11:24 p.m. Friday. Firefighters found the two-story garage engulfed in flames, according to Bucksport firefighter Chris Connor. The flames were threatening the house located about 20 feet from the garage.

“When we got there, it was starting to spread to the house,” Connor said. “The siding had melted and the wall facing the garage had caught on fire.”

Firefighters concentrated their efforts of preventing the fire from spreading in the house and were able to contain it to that one wall. Although the wall was damaged, the house remains intact. The garage, however, was a total loss, Connor said.

The house is owned by Robert Crone. It was unoccupied at the time of the fire, but it still had electricity running to it.
