Williamson leads Colby

WATERVILLE – Laura Williamson headed in a cross from Katie McCabe with 3:19 left in the first half as Colby held off Middlebury for a 2-1 women’s soccer win on Saturday.

Liz Morbeck scored on a Meg Cordner pass for the 5-0-2 Mules. Liza Benson finished with 11 saves on 24 shots.

Nora Tomlinson-Weintraub netted the lone goal for Middlebury and Erin Pittenger tallied an assist. Adele Plunkett made five saves on 17 shots for the Panthers.

USM 2, UMass-Boston 0

At Boston Saturday, Caitlin Brown and Nicolette Greene each netted a goal to lead the University of Southern Maine over the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Cyndi Michaels and Meghan Ibar combined to make six saves on eight shots for the 2-7 Huskies.

Jessica Penta stopped 18 of 35 shots for the 2-7 Beacons.

Lasell 2, Thomas 1

At Waterville, Justine Hill scored both goals as Lasell downed Thomas.

Nicole Ruggerio tallied an assist for the Lasers.

Karen Demers on a break away for the Terriers.

UM-Fort Kent sweeps

At Fort Kent, Maria Williams scored three goals to lead the University of Maine of Fort Kent past Saint Joseph’s College 8-1 on Saturday. The Lady Bengals beat Paul Smith’s College on Sunday 7-1.

On Saturday, Liz Clavette had a goal and two assists for UM-Fort Kent. Sarah Pinette and Lindsay Cyr both had a goal and an assist. Jeanne Frazer and Nicole Nowakowski added goals. Heather Hartman stopped seven of eight shots.

Katie Chase made 34 saves on 47 shots for Saint Joseph’s College.

On Sunday, Jodyann Blake scored three goals for the Lady Bengals. Clavette added two goals and Pinette had a goal and an assist. Heather Hartman stopped nine of 10 shots.

Karlie Zurmuhien stopped 15 of 25 shots for Paul Smith’s College.

Mount Ida 1, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington Saturday, Elise McLear scored on a feed from Katie Lorenco to lead Mount Ida over UMaine-Farmington.

Jamie Hurd made 11 saves on 15 shots for 6-3 Mount Ida.

Alix Raymond had three saves on four shots for the 5-4 Beavers.

MMA 1, Castleton State 1

At Castine Saturday, Hillary Arris made five saves to help Maine Maritime preserve the tie.

MMA (2-3-2) outshot Castleton (Vt.) State 11-8, and got a first half goal from Jesse Taylor to take a 1-0 lead.

The Spartans (5-4-1) rallied to tie the game on a breakaway goal by Tracy Stala. Kim Allen made four saves in goal for Castleton.

Maine 1, New Hampshire 0

At Orono Sunday, Laura Martel scored at the 85:08 mark on a Veronique Fleury assist to lead the University of Maine past the University of New Hampshire on Sunday.

Jasmine Phillips blocked the only shot that she saw for the 9-1-1 Black Bears.

Lynn Gugliuzza made six saves on seven shots for 3-7-0 New Hampshire.

Husson 4, Johnston State 0

At Bangor Saturday, Samantha Homer, Katie Nickerson and Shelby Pickering each tallied a goal and an assist to lead Husson past Johnson State.

Shelby Morissette added a goal for the 5-3-1 Eagles and Danielle Billings notched an assist. Leah Drew made one save on four shots.

Francesca Delle-Femine recorded three saves on 17 shots for 5-6 Johnson State.

MMA 3, Johnson State 2

At Castine Sunday, Amy Preble scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to lift Maine Maritime to victory.

Kristen Gaylord and Jessie Taylor each notched a goal for the 3-3-2 Lady Mariners. Hillary Arris made three saves on 12 shots.

Vanessa Ralston and Casey Rusin each netted a goal for 5-4-1 Johnson State. Francesca Delle-Femino had five saves on 19 shots.

Husson 2 Castleton State 0

At Bangor, Samantha Homer and Shelby Pickering scored to lead Husson College past Castleton State on Sunday.

Danielle Lorusso and Katie Nickerson provided assists for the 6-3-1 Eagles. Leah Drew stopped all four shots.

Kim Allen made nine saves on 11 shots for 5-4-1 Castleton State.

UM-Fort Kent sweeps

At Fort Kent, the University of Maine at Fort Kent defeated the College of Saint Joseph 11-0 on Saturday and beat Paul Smith’s College 8-0 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Emlyn Jacoby, Andy Martin, and Arnold Lewis each scored two goals for the Bengals. Justin Dunlea, Donatas Sumyla, and Jules Bodo all had a goal. Dwayne Smith and Noe Aparico provided four assists each. Derrick Plourde blocked all four shots.

On Sunday, Lewis had a hat trick with three goals and two assists for UM-Fort Kent. Martin added two goals and an assist and Aparicio had a goal and two assists. Sumyla scored a goal. Plourde blocked the only shot he faced.

Paul Dudec made 24 saves on 22 shots for Paul Smith’s.

Middlebury 3, Colby 2

At Waterville, Dana Rye’s goal with 11 minutes left lifted No. 7 Middlebury to victory over Colby at Bill Alfond Field.

Lacey Farrell added a goal and an assist for the Panthers, while Reid Berrien also scored for the winners.

Chrissy Maloney and Mary Clare Snediker each scored for Colby, while Chelsea Rosenheimer and Jess Egan had assists.

Meghan McGillen made seven saves on 15 shots for 6-0 Middlebury. Jamie Enos made 16 saves on 24 shots for 1-4 Colby.

So. Maine 3, Worcester State 1

At Gorham, Cristina Corson, India Lowe and Samantha Johnson each scored as the University of Southern Maine handed Worcester State its first Little East Conference defeat.

Johnson and Alyson Lumino each had assists for the Huskies, 4-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Allie Hill made eight saves on 17 shots for USM.

Ann Clark scored for Worcester State (6-2, 4-1). Erin MacDonald made five saves on 11 shots.

Saint Joseph’s 6, Wheelock 0

At Standish, Saint Joseph’s jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead en route to the victory.

Jessica Baker and Kelly Emerson each had a goal and an assist for the 3-4 Monks. Gina Gaetani, Darcey Ward, Jillian Kimball and Jaimee Brett also scored, while Julia Ostrowski added two assists and Ashley Haynes had one assist.

Karrie Sirois did not have to make a save to earn the shutout in goal. Lauren Tavones made 13 saves on 21 shots for 0-8 Wheelock.

Regis 2, Saint Joseph’s 1

At Standish, Melissa O’Donnell scored twice to lead Regis College past Saint Joseph’s College on Sunday.

Micaela Lynch and Alex Kluchnick provided assists for 1-9 Regis. Aislynn Quinn made 17 saves on 18 shots.

Julia Ostraski scored on a Darcey Ward assist at 31:43 in the first half for the 3-5 Monks. Katie Sirois stopped one of two shots.

Albany 3, Maine 0

At Albany, N.Y. Saturday, Michelle Simpson had a goal and an assist and Nicole Savage added two assist as Albany defeated Maine in America East play.

Vanessa Walter and Kristen Holder each added a goal for the Great Danes, 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Ashley Ross made four saves on seven shots for Albany. Rebecca Giroux made nine saves on 18 shots for Maine (3-8, 0-1).

UM-Farmington 1, Simmons 0

At Farmington, Andrea Tyler scored on a feed from Katie Gorham to lift UMaine-Farmington over Simmons.

The Beavers improve to 4-1, 3-0 in conference.

Men’s soccer

USM 2, UMass-Boston 0

At Gorham Saturday, Sinisa Bajic scored two goals in the first half to lead the University of Southern Maine past the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Ben Slagle tallied an assist and goalie Chris Willard made ninsaves on 17 shots for the 5-6 Huskies.

Paul Maniscalco made one save on 11 shots for the 6-4 Beacons.

Lasell 5, Thomas 0

At Waterville Saturday, Zach Gagna had a goal and an assist as Lasell rolled past Thomas.

With the win, the Lasers improve to 3-4-1 and the Terriers drop to 0-8.

Goalie Russ Beckwith made 12 saves for Thomas.

Husson 1, Johnson State 0

At Bangor, Hiroki Ueda headed in the game-winning goal on a cross from Jeff Truchon to lead Husson past Johnston State.

Jon Cowie made three saves on four shots for the 7-1-1 Eagles.

Andy Lane had seven saves on 13 shots for 3-6 Johnson State.

Johnson State 1, MMA 0

At Castine Sunday, Telar Tolar came off the bench to score the game-winning goal as Johnson State blanked Maine Maritime.

Andy Lane made one save on four shots for 4-6 Johnson State.

Goalie Brian Nason had two saves on 20 shots as the Mariners drop to 0-8-2.

Husson 1, Castleton 0

At Bangor, Hiroshi Iwabuchi scored the game-winning goal as Husson downed Castleton.

Jon Cowie had six saves on eight shots for the 8-1-1 Eagles.

Ben Colona and Kevin Merchant combined to make seven saves on 15 shots.

UMaine-Farmington 1, Mt. Ida 1

At Farmington, Jordan Hickey scored on a pass from Nate Ghelli to lift UMaine-Farmington past Mt. Ida.

Brian Lemont made one save on 10 shots for the 3-3-2 Beavers.

Brian Leighton had four saves on 16 shots for the Mustangs.

New Hampshire 2, Maine 0

At Durham, N.H. Sunday, Bryan Stewart and John Bergquist each scored a goal as the University of New Hampshire downed UMaine.

Brian Levey tallied one save on three shots for the 6-4-2 Wildcats.

Giacomo Bruino made five saves on eight shots for the 0-11 Black Bears.

MMA 1, Castleton State 1

At Castine, Alan Alexander’s goal 40 minutes into the contest rallied Maine Maritime Academy to a tie with Castleton (Vt.) State.

Castleton (5-5-1) outshot 0-7-2 MMA 23-13, but Mariner goalies Josh Heath and Brian Nason combined to make eight saves to help secure the tie.

Jesse Brown scored on a penalty kick 24 minutes into the match to give Castleton State a 1-0 lead. Mike Anthony made five saves in goal for the Spartans.


Maine 3, Hartford 0

At Orono, Shelly Seipp had 33 set assists and seven digs to lead the University of Maine past the University of Hartford 30-19, 20-23, 30-25 on Sunday.

Jessica Wolfenden had 15 kills for the 4-11 Black Bears. Lindsay Allman had 10 digs and one block and Jody Connacher added 10 digs.

Jennifer Monroy paced 7-7 Hartford with 14 kills and 13 digs. Sarah Rasor had 32 set assists and Lauren Flores had 12 digs.
